After a break of a couple of days break for VIDVIDVID I have now watched Parasite twice, excluding a couple of scenes that didn't require reviewing. It's definitely a favourite of mine.

To begin at the ending, it's great to finally meet the mysterious Mr. Linderman, especially since he turns out to be such an engaging character. He effortlessly manipulates Nathan into doing what he wants - no mean feat for someone that's not a Petrelli - and his speech about a life of happiness vs. a life of meaning echoes many of the themes of the series.

After he tries to play the lone wolf, the universe goes out of its way to give Hiro a lesson about needing others. First Nathan helps him get his foot in the door after the most adorable, funny, and insightful conversation. I love that Hiro has an outright compulsion to wave his arms and shout 'Flying Man!' whenever he sees Nathan. And I love that after meeting him just a couple of times, he understands Nathan's psyche so well. Awwwwwwwww.

And speaking of awwwwwww, I actually squealed when Ando appeared and cold cocked the curator. Then I felt bad, because it was the early hours of the morning and my upstairs neighbours probably didn't need me making high-pitched noises because OMGANDOISSOCOOLANDHEWINKEDATHIROANDTHENTHEYHUGGED. Hiro takes the lesson about teamwork on board, too. When Ando tells him to teleport out of there and leave him for the other 753 members of security, he uses his powers to take another person with him for the first time. Into the Grim Future!

Meanwhile, a couple of fandom's other OTPs are also having a field day. Peter has his girlfriend's blood all over him, so naturally this makes him think 'I know, I'll go have some subtext with my brother. That always makes me feel better!'

Elsewhere in New York, Sylar and Mohinder seem to be rapidly exiting the realm of subtext. (Seriously, the only thing that makes me think they didn't have sex while Mohinder still thought Sylar was Zane is that Sylar would have thrown it back at him later if they did.) Finally, Mohinder proves that there's a brain in the pretty head of his, as he drugs and captures the serial killer. I'm also relieved to find that Dale Smither's death wasn't in vain, because it tipped him off that something was wrong.

Mohinder proves that he has more in common with Sylar than he'd probably like to admit as he tortures and then attempts to shoot him in a series of wonderfully intense scenes. I appreciated the fact that the mistake which allows Sylar to regain they upper hand is an oversight anyone could have made, and not something that makes Mohinder look like an idiot. Instead of killing his torturer immediately, Sylar sticks him to the ceiling for later. I guess that means he watches Supernatural *g*.

Back in Texas, Mr. Bennet has some great moments too. First with Sandra, who proves to be far more resilient than he ever gave her credit for, and then with newcomer Candice Wilmer pretending to be his wife. (Now I'm convinced the writers are Alias fans. We even find out that Sandra and Mr. Bennet recreated Sydney and Danny's shower scene from the opening episode ...) Who thought we'd reach a point in the series where the audience would go 'oh noes! The bad guys got Mr. Bennet!'

Finally, Claire shows courage and resourcefulness in giving the Haitian the slip but is ultimately outsmarted by her own wonderful, scary grandmother.

I. Love. This. Show.

Linderman: and isn't he cast perfectly, or what?

First Nathan helps him get his foot in the door after the most adorable, funny, and insightful conversation. I love that Hiro has an outright compulsion to wave his arms and shout 'Flying Man!' whenever he sees Nathan.

It never gets old. Also, Nathan clued into this as this time he stopped Hiro just in time, providing a good screen cap for lots of icons.*g* And I love that this time, Nathan spots Hiro first and seeks him out, showcasing how he really likes our Japanese fanboy.

(Meanwhile, the FBI agents complaining about Nathan wasting time by "chatting up Japanese tourists" have no soul and deserve their fate at the hand of Jessica.)

Hiro and Ando reuniting: too adorable, and I cheered the first time I saw it, too!

Peter has his girlfriend's blood all over him, so naturally this makes him think 'I know, I'll go have some subtext with my brother. That always makes me feel better!'

LOL. Yes, something like that. And you ain't seen nothing yet.

Elsewhere in New York, Sylar and Mohinder seem to be rapidly exiting the realm of subtext.

And living up to their pairing name of S/M!

(Seriously, the only thing that makes me think they didn't have sex while Mohinder still thought Sylar was Zane is that Sylar would have thrown it back at him later if they did.)

Actually... you ain't seen nothing yet there, either. Mind you, I'm not interested in Sylar's sex life, due to the whole being creeped out factor, but that is the one pairing featuring him which I actually can see having happened.

Finally, Claire shows courage and resourcefulness in giving the Haitian the slip but is ultimately outsmarted by her own wonderful, scary grandmother.

Angela Petrelli: scariest matriarch since Livia Drusilla. I love the scenes between her and Claire.

P.S.

Heh. In a recent interview, Zachary Quinto was asked about "Sylinder." His response? "Sylinder? Oh, you mean Mylar." Hee hee hee.

You should listen to the commentaries--the cast and crew know about the HoYay, and it's *hilarious*.

It is really the cutest. cast. ever. Evidence: pictures like this one (http://sparky77.livejournal.com/440150.html#cutid1) and this one (http://community.livejournal.com/peter_mohinder/71559.html).

Where are these hilarious things to be found?

If you join the heroes_tv comm, then some kind person usually puts them up (in a locked post) after the episode airs. Unfortunately they're just sound files, no video, but they're brilliant all the same.

One of my favorite excerpts, from "Godsend":

Sendhil Ramamurthy: I think it was a really bold choice of Milo to play that, when he’s in a coma, play it gay. (Leonard absolutely cracks up at this. :) ) I meant to commend him on that, and I forgot to.
Leonard Roberts: He’s brave.
Jack Coleman: And it’s so subtle. You’d probably never pick it up.
Sendhil Ramamurthy: It’s very subtle.
Leonard Roberts: Adrian’s going to allude to it in a second.
Jack Coleman: I don’t think so. Although the kiss Adrian gives him is a little…
Leonard Roberts: It’s very tender.
Jack Coleman: It’s very tender.
Sendhil Ramamurthy: I may have been reading… was there tongue?
Leonard Roberts: Mm, I don’t think so.
Jack Coleman: No. Milo might have tried but I think Adrian snuck around it.

Do the cast have meetings to decide how they should make the slashers on the internet squee next?

Oh, definitely. You know, I love that these guys are comfortable enough with themselves, and with the HoYay, that they don't mind joking about it. The producers are in on it too. From the commentary for the finale, when Peter goes to see Nathan in the parking garage:

Tim Kring: And now we're about to have the patented Nathan Petrelli shoulder rub.
(Allan Arkush--the director, Dennis Hammer--producer, and Kring all start laughing.)
Dennis Hammer: They touch. They're Italian. People misconstrue. We've seen the YouTube movies. Don't think we haven't seen the YouTube movies, people out there. (Points to the camera)
Nathan takes Peter by the shoulders and leads him off
Kring, Arkush, and Hammer: There we go! Yay!

Heh. Yep, it was around now that I was firmly "I. Love. This. Show." Next episode is probably one of my favorites. :) The show is nothing but awesome from this point forward, IMHO.

Also, how can you not LOVE, "I can not get past casino security giant." HEE. And I also adored the whole bit from Claire slipping away from Haitian and having scary/awesome Ma Petrelli.

I love that Hiro has an outright compulsion to wave his arms and shout 'Flying Man!' whenever he sees Nathan.

It's so sweet. And a very understandable impulse. :-)

The Hiro/Ando reuniting scene is just heart-melting. Oh, my boys...

And yeah, while I'm not that into reading Mylar fic, there's no doubt that there's a little bit going on between our pet psychopath and his pretty geneticist.

BWAH!

I found a Claire/Peter comm. So far, I have not found good fic yet, though. Life so sad.

But the whole thing is tinged with CREEEEEEPY!

...come to think of it, so are the other pairings mentioned in here; I just have a slight aversion to serial killer smoochies, I think. Carry on.

CLAIRE ROCKS!

And so does Mamma Petrelli. Who is amazing.

I could give you fanfic recs, but no Claire/Peter ones. So not my pairing. (Not because of the uncle/niece factor, because of the 15 years old/26 years old factor and the imo lack of any romantic interest on his side at the very least. I did write a gen story with Claire and Peter as the leads, but it's set post finale, and you haven't reached that yet, have you?)

Meanwhile, here's a Heroes stories rec page:

Well, the lack of *romantic* interest on-screen never stopped any fan. & ;-) That said, I'm told she's at least 16, most say 17, and some posit 18? Either way.

The story: Family Ways (http://selenak.livejournal.com/293824.html).

Re: Claire's age: In The Fix (which takes place in October 2006), Claire says she is "almost 16"; this would suggest that her birth was in or after October of 1990. Further, Claire's birth-mother tells Nathan that their daughter is now 16 (Run!). In an interview Tim Kring stated that Claire is 16 during the finale which takes place in November.

So: definitely way too young for me to comfortably pair her with any of the adult characters in the current time frame.

I'm definitely seconding the rec of Family Ways: it's one of my favorite Heroes fics.

And the thing about Claire's age is that she was retconned from 17/18 down to 15/16--I have no idea why. In the pilot she talks about SATs coming up soon, which would suggest she's a senior, and I'm pretty sure one of her parents mentioned her being seventeen. Maybe they got scared of the Peter/Claire shippers?

I found a Claire/Peter comm. So far, I have not found good fic yet, though. Life so sad.

I'll have to do something about that. OK, some recs (the 2nd batch has spoilers for eps you haven't seen, the 1st doesn't):

Weeeird. Perhaps it was the fan reaction, i.e. folks shipping Peter/Claire, and the writers (due to their superior knowledge of RELATEDNESS!) going for what they considered damage control.

Also: Hey, wow, THANK YOU! *beam*

The funny thing is that it hasn't stopped the fans. It's hilarious. It's a minor plot point that's never gonna happen in a show chock full of stuff going on, and yet a question gets asked about it at practically *every* interview/press conference there is. Michael Ausiello asked about it at the NBC Upfronts. Tim Kring and Hayden answered a question about it at the liveblog at NBC.com after the finale aired. :-)

You've been so kind with the recs and such; I really appreciate it.

It's my pleasure. It's hard to find the good stuff, especially with a pairing like Peter/Claire. I found another one yesterday: Impasse (Blank Canvas Remix) (http://community.livejournal.com/remix_redux/75591.html). Spoilers up to 1x18.

It's happy-makin', that's what it is. *eg* I followed the Supernatural debates with a certain air of indifference because while objectively I think no matter what I think about right or wrong in real life, folks are free to write the fiction they want to write, subjectively I really couldn't be bothered to care. Now, I...well, okay, I still don't care per se; I just care that this might stop others from writing the hot, dirty, bad, wrong Peter/Claire. 0 :-) To make a long story short: Glad the fans were not deterred!

It's my pleasure. It's hard to find the good stuff, especially with a pairing like Peter/Claire.
