So, Sandeigo Comic Con is over for a year. If there was any exciting news about the shows I love, my flist has not informed me so far. (Of course, I tend to be pretty spoiler-avoidant anyway.)

However, it seems that Hasbro and Mattel are trying to get me to give them all the money I make at my new job. Nothing exciting revealed in the Marvel Legends line, but there were lots of shiny Transformers. We're getting a Universe Cyclonus to go with Universe Galvatron, and a repaint of Animated Activators Bumblebee as Cliffjumper, with a new headsculpt! Here's hoping they make Wasp in the same scale.

Also on show were many more Robot Heroes to swell the ranks of my tiny robot army, including Ironhide, Blaster and Thrust. The appearance of a Conehead is especially cool, as it means we're bound to see the other two soon.

Even cooler than the transforming robots, though, was Mattel's DC comics panel. Because, dude. I cannot even tell you how awesome their news was, so I'm going to show you instead.

I should not be allowed to read non-fiction books about the mafia, because it leads to yet more wacky crossover ideas.

Seriously, though? Ray Vecchio + Helena Bertinelli = win.

Finally managed to get something written. Hooray!

Rating: G

Fandom: Justice League Unlimited, post-Grudge Match in Season Five.

Author's Note: I honestly can't remember if it was [livejournal.com profile] greenygal or [livejournal.com profile] apathocles who was the other participant in the conversation responsible for this story. I do know that Apathy now owes me a Huntress/Question story set in a supermarket *g*.

Dear Father Christmas,

I realise that this letter is early, but I have just watched Comfort and Joy for the first time. I have decided that this year I would like a Martian for Christmas. I realise that they are somewhat scarce, but I promise I would give him a good home and feed him cookies.

Thank you,

Andraste.

OK, so maybe I had an ulterior motive for asking about DC cities the other day. Maybe there is this JLU story. Which I am absolutely not writing, because I have a Multiverse deadline to stick too. But, er, if I were writing it, I would be having some issues wrapping my brain around the geography of the animated universe.

In Question Authority, specifically. )

I'm not dead, just vidding. If you don't hear from me between now and the start of July, it's because I have three vids to finish before the Vividcon deadline. (Yes, I know. If this doesn't indicate that I'm mentally unstable already, I certainly will be by the time I'm done ...) But at least the Dead Girls vid is all done and ready to go! Yay!

Aforementioned vidding has definitely not required mainlining lots of animated Justice League. I have also not broken my solemn vow about DC superheroes by borrowing Gotham Central. (But if I had, [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil's comics would be safe in my hands, and I would be very sorry about how long it's taking me to return them.) I certainly have not read Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia at the local library or crumbled completely and bought Huntress: Cry For Blood and Formerly Known as the Justice League. And I certainly did not laugh so hard at the latter that I had to go get the sequel, too.

But, er, if I had done all of the above ... I might hypothetically be wondering what I should read next?

(Recs for reasonably self-contained stories collected in TPB only, please. My days of hunting patiently through back issue bins are long gone. I managed to make sense of Formerly Known as the Justice League, which says more for my mad google skillz than my knowledge of the DC Universe.)

There is absolutely no idle observation about the the JLU cartoon series below the cut. )

Eeeek!

Dear Self,

When you are leaving the House Of Free Cable And Faster Internet Than Yours and don't know when you'll be able to download another episode of JLU, do not pick Question Authority as the last file you grab. It is a really bad place to pause.

Love,

You.

Further correspondence, with spoilers for Season Four - Apathy, avert your eyes. )

Within the space of a week I've got from Not Watching Justice League to Not Writing Fanfic, Especially Not Lex Luthor/Atom Porn and Definitely Not Having A Vid Idea, No Way In Hell. I blame [livejournal.com profile] greenygal.

... someone shoot me with a death ray now.

All those people who have tried to get me to watch more of the Justice League animated series over the years? Probably all you really needed to do was point me at a list of voice actors, possibly with a note saying 'oh, and in addition to casting Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor, they got Jeffrey Combs to play that guy Rorschach is based on.' Whoever does the casting for this show is a genius. Looking at the list, it's like someone put all my fandoms in a blender and hit puree. I am yet to spot an X-Men connection, but surely there must be one.

(Of course, anyone wishing to pimp me DC cartoons would also have to magically provide me with cable. The only time I get to see this show is when I'm cat sitting for the Other Other Aunt, which is about twice a year on average.)

At this point, I'm slightly puzzled about why this season is the one that seems to have killed the fandom stone dead, but then I'm seeing it way out of context. I've managed to catch a few episodes here and there on previous cat sitting expeditions, but the one-part format is at least easier for a casual viewer who lacks cable to follow. I suspect it allows for less of what the fandom liked most, though.
