I've been watching Miracle Day from the beginning but was reserving comment until the big finale. In short, it had its ups and down, but I loved the ending. To the point where my upstairs neighbours are probably wondering what the applauding and gleeful laughter during the last scene were about.

Spoilers abound! )

So, we now know who Russell T. Davies has recruited to work with him on Torchwood Season Four, and it's good news all round. We've got:

- John Fay, responsible for two episodes of Children of Earth and some other British TV.

- Jane Espenson, of Caprica, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, etc. etc.

- Doris Egan, producer and writer for House and Dark Angel, among other things.

- John Shiban, probably best known for his work as executive producer and writer on The-X-Files.

I wasn't exactly filled with confidence for the new episodes when I saw the casting call, but that's a fine bunch of writers they have there. I will be interested to see what they do.

I'm a few days behind everyone else, since my graphics card committed seppuku last week and had to be replaced. (Neverwinter Nights 2: so awesome your hardware will melt.) I'm glad I waited and watched it all back-to-back, though, because I don't think I could have stood the cliffhangers. As it was I watched it in inferior quality on the 'Tube because I couldn't wait for the files to finish *ahem*ing.

Short, non-spoilery version: amazingly good, up there with the best ever episodes of its parent series. Unless you find the subject matter too upsetting (for which I would not blame you - I found it very hard to sit through at times, and it didn't push any of my personal buttons) you should definitely watch it. That applies to fans of all TV science fiction, not just Doctor Who specifically.

Some spoilery thoughts about Jack behind cut. )

Two watchable Chris Chibnall episodes in a row? I think it's time to start checking for extra celestial bodies in the sky.

And now we have to wait two weeks. Argh! )

I have not had much to say about Torchwood this year, beyond that it is approximately a MILLIONTY TIMES BETTER than Torchwood last year. Possibly the writers watched The Sarah Jane Adventures and were embarrassed into improving.

After today's episode, though, I have actual thinky thoughts. Hey, it makes a change from squeeing about giant robots, right?

Spoilers. Not just for Torchwood but for BtVS, Babylon 5 and old X-Men comics. Also new series Battlestar Galactica in the comments! )
andraste: The reason half the internet imagines me as Patrick Stewart. (Attracted to Shiny Objects)
Warning: This is a Torchwood vid. If you object to people of various genders snogging/shagging, steer clear.

Spoilers: Through the end of the first season only.

Tech Specs: 25MB zpped DivX .avi file.

Summary: It's harder than it looks.

End of the World News

I have been an even worse than usual correspondent lately (blame work and
family stress) but decided that I'd rather use my one free day this week to
draft a vid than to deal with the mountain of e-mail and comments I have in
my inbox. A thousand apologies for my continued rudeness!

Anyway, I now have an almost complete - albeit very rough - draft of a
Torchwood vid. It's kind of a mess at the moment, but I'd like to
show it to other people in the next few days just to find out if it makes
any sense. Knowledge of vidding and/or the show handy but not necessary.
It's filled with spoilers for the entire thing. Also, people who hated
Torchwood probably should not volunteer. (Not that I expect they
would, but ...)

I've been planning to save up my Torchwood remarks until after I've seen everything, but going on past experience I don't think I could stand to sit and watch a Chris Chibnall episode after what I've just seen.

Spoilers through episode twelve, obviously. )

As it seems not everyone is bored with talking about the first six episodes,
I bring you my thoughts *g*. I've not yet seen Greeks Bearing Gifts
and will dismember you if you spoil me.

Character by character, episode by episode. Spoilers through Countrycide. )
andraste: The reason half the internet imagines me as Patrick Stewart. (New Doctor)
I spent the weekend mainlining most of Torchwood, and I am a bit in love. As witnessed by the fact that I have stayed up until one in the morning after work to watch all of Countrycide even though spoiler. )

I thought as soon as I heard about this show that I was going to enjoy it regardless of whether or not it was actually any good, and it was Cyberwoman that confirmed my suspicion. I mean spoiler? ) Silliest. Plan. Ever. And I just sat there gaping and knew I was hooked. When you have a spoiler ) vs. spoiler ) battle in your show, quality is utterly irrelevant. Well, at least for me it is. I can understand that other people's mileage may vary.

Possibly I will have more to say tomorrow, assuming people are not completely bored with discussing the first half dozen episodes.
