Torchwood: Miracle Day

I've been watching Miracle Day from the beginning but was reserving comment until the big finale. In short, it had its ups and down, but I loved the ending. To the point where my upstairs neighbours are probably wondering what the applauding and gleeful laughter during the last scene were about.
See, the new thing I loved most about Miracle Day was Agent Rex Matheson. I knew I liked him when he started complaining about Welsh bridge tolls, and later episodes cemented my fondness. So in the final scene I went from 'Rex! Noes!!!' to 'OMG WE ARE KEEPING HIM FOREVER!!!' He and Jack canhave snarky sex keep each other company in their immortality.
I am sad about Esther (and Vera Juarez) but on the bright side, we get to keep Jilly Kitzinger as well. She's a great villain, and her hair is indeed a work of art. Meanwhile, Oswald Danes blows himself up and leaves me wondering quite what the point of that whole subplot was, other than Bill Pullman being magnificent. Was also sorry that Shapiro got exploded - John de Lancie was marvellously cast. (Although it did mean I spent the last few episodes of the series expecting Patrick Stewart to wander in and yell at him to get off his ship. Sadly this did not happen.) I didn't realise how much I'd miss Jack until he sat up again and I started worrying that he was going to be left alive but buried under a pile of rubble next to a gap in reality.
The technobabble morphic field Blessing thingy sort of worked as a McGuffin, but I guess ultimately that wasn't really the point of the story. On the whole, I didn't think this was anywhere near as good as Children of Earth, but then, what is? I did enjoy it, though, and I'm ultimately glad the door was left open for more. Especially if the more involves Rex Mathesonhaving snarky sex with Jack.
