X-Men: Inferno #4
Jan. 6th, 2022 09:07 pmHickman's run with the mutants ends with a plot twist everyone probably saw coming and then another one most people (me included) probably didn't.
I realise that the point of this is that Charles and Erik's fight with Nimrod and the Omega Sentinel is meaningless - because Moira did an end run around them and then Emma, Destiny and Mystique did an end run around her and then Doug did an end run around everybody, well done Doug! - and they don't even remember it, but obviously I didn't find it pointless. Oh, Helmet Bros <3. The whole storyline truly is a testament to what they can accomplish when they stop treading on each other's feet. (Or pretending to tread on each other's feet, for that matter.) Even when they lose they win!
Having read and loved Kieron Gillen's Die just recently, I am pretty confidant that Immortal X-Men is about to be my new favourite x-book even if Erik is leaving the Quiet Council and ... running off to Arakko? Maybe?
(Well, they've got gates. It's not like he can't find his way to the doorstep of the House of X whenever he wants ...)

Date: 2022-01-09 07:32 am (UTC)I love that he was just lurking in the background of this story waiting to save the day <3. (And/or doom everyone to be consumed by the Technarcy in a million years. Who knows!)
This was fantastic and I loved that nobody had to hold the idiot ball for it to work - everyone did what they thought was right (though in Emma's case it was more dropping information here and there and seeing what people did with it) but seeing Destiny and Mystique as a fully active team was just stunning.
Yes - everyone is just trying to do what they think is best with whatever information they have, and of course it leads to this clusterfuck that is simultaneously everybody's fault and nobody's fault. It makes sense that Moira wants to end everyone's suffering after a thousand years of this, however harsh her 'I've been trying to fix this for a millenia and I can't, so let's just get rid of the mutants' conclusion seems to everyone else. It makes sense that Charles and Erik are treating her like an unexploded bomb they don't want to tell anyone about. It makes sense that Raven would burn down paradise to get Irene back, because obviously it's not paradise if they won't return her wife. And oh boy, I am so happy this story has made Destiny alive again, because it's really fun watching her work <3.
