It does suit her!
There was just about enough plot to hang the characters off of, which is probably not a bad things for a regeneration episode. (Does anyone care much about the Sycorax or Prisoner Zero or those robots whose names I don't even recall?) Nice to see a new species, though, and I'm glad we're going to see all new stuff this season. I mean, I guess I would like Thirteen to fight some Daleks and Cybermen eventually, and I would definitely like her to hang out with Kate Stewart, but there isn't any hurry.
Thirteen feels a little generic so far, but I'd have said the same about Matt Smith after The Eleventh Hour and he worked out fine. Given the one big, obvious change it's probably a good idea not to make her too different from the Doctorial average right now. But I already love her accent and Jodie Whittaker makes the best faces. (I first loved the Tenth Doctor when he started hopping and the Eleventh when he walked into that hay bale. With Thirteen it was when she looked at that spoon.)
I thought they handled the gender switch perfectly - the Doctor acknowledges that it's a bit of a change, but really, all regenerations are changes and there are adventures to be getting on with. (Mind you, I am now deeply curious about who the Doctor bought women's clothes for in the past ...)
New companions seem like a good mix of personalities, although I was sorry to see Grace go. I am glad that the one person who pushed the alien light button and the two people who so would have pushed the alien light button (because, c'mon, you know Yasmin would have done it, too) are going to be balanced out by someone who would not and would really like this DNA bomb situation to be sorted out now please and why are we all running after this alien anyway??? Which is to say, I think having a middle-aged white man who is not remotely Doctor-y around is a good writing choice, because it underlines the fact that being a middle-aged white man in this show does not automatically make you the Doctor.

Date: 2018-10-08 06:34 am (UTC)I do think they will eventually end up in a time/place where the people will only listen to a white man and Graham will have to flail his way through. Then 13 will do something impressive or punch someone in the face and things will go back to normal.

Date: 2018-10-09 04:41 am (UTC)That sounds extremely likely.

Or maybe the Doctor recalls Three stealing that cleaning lady's get up in his debut episode as buying...

Date: 2018-10-09 04:45 am (UTC)Good point! I would think that Vestals were generally issued clothes by the temple, but it's not like he could have got in without appropriate attire. (And a hell of a lot of bluffing.)

Extremely plausible - Three has a clear history of stealing things and then acting like they are his. (The Brig made him return that first car, but the Master is never getting his lunch back.)
