A Small Update

Me: Well, hey, my friends reminded me that I feel like reading Saiyuki again! But maybe before I plunge into a complete re-read, I should just catch up on those three chapters I haven't read yet ...

Me: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! *is broken forever*

... I am torn between wanting her to get on with this as quickly as her health allows, and not wanting to see all the horrible things that seem likely to be in store for the ending. (At the very least, we seem to be into the final third of the story now. Although given that it's taken seventeen years or so to get to this point, the conclusion could still be a ways off.)

It's so weird to go back to the early volumes - which are full of backstories replete with murder and incest - and think 'ah, yes, those were happier and more innocent times.'

The Saiyuki Manga livejournal community has everything that hasn't been officially translated into English - so, the last volume of Saiyuki Reload that was never printed because Tokyo Pop went out of business, plus all of Saiyuki Gaiden and everything that exists so far of Saiyuki Ibun. (That's another prequel, about how Koumyou Sanzo got to be a Sanzo. Only six chapters at the moment.) Also the first two volumes of Saiyuki Reload Blast, which is as far as Minekura-sama has got so far.

I think that both the original Saiyuki and Saiyuki Reload are on Manga Fox, but you could also borrow them from me any time :).

You did not! Glad you found it at last. Man, I really should borrow those from you and read it one of these days. I've only read the first ... four volumes, I think? Maybe five? Even if it does descend into Pokemon Adventures toward the end.
