For anyone who hasn't seen them yet, the Children In Need Minisode is here and the trailer is here.
Short reaction: eeeeeeeeeeee!
First of all: Madame Vastra! Jenny, who now has a last name! STRAAAAAX! I hope this means they are one step closer to getting their own spin-off. The inclusion of Strax was a nice surprise. I've seen some people say it cheapens his death, but I'm just pleased to see him again. And since the Sontarans are a clone species, I can think of at least one easy way he could have been resurrected.
(Once again: will the BBC please hurry up and let Big Finish have the license to use elements from the new series while Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter are still making Jago & Litefoot? These characters need to hang out together. And if the Madame Vastra and Her Amazing Friends spin-off were on audio, it would save the actors from having to put on all those prosthetics and all that make-up.)
I love that Strax has declared war on the moon. And also:
"You find something brand new in the world, something you've never seen before. What's the next thing you look for?"
"A grenade!"
Meanwhile, the Doctor is looking great in his Victorian outfit. (But what the hell is that coat Matt Smith is wearing in the intro? Is that really what the hipsters are wearing in Britain this winter?) I am thrilled that Clara the new companion seems to be from Victorian London, although given the attention drawn to Oswin's apperance in Asylum of the Daleks, I suspect there's more to it than that. Whatever turns out to be going on with her, though, I'm happy we finally have a female companion who isn't from contemporary Britain.
Also, Richard E. Grant looks good and predatory snowmen are a good fit for Doctor Who. Here's hoping this lives up to the trailer.
