... also Scott Eaton and John Dell. Because the writer might have forced me take X-Men: Legacy #208 off the rack, but if the last page hadn't been so damned pretty I might not have had to buy it. Curse you, Mike Carey and company! I'd been on the wagon for two years! I'd even given up buying Astonishing X-Men in single issues!

What I'd given up was not reading X-Men comics, you see, but buying them in the pamphlet format. I vastly prefer TPBS. But after reading a couple of reviews I just had to buy this, because, well *points at icon*.

I give this issue my stamp of fangirl approval - morally ambiguous Xavier is something I am very fond of, provided it's done well, and the initial signs here are hopeful. Carey seems to have a good grasp on my #1 Guy. (By contrast, I stayed away from the whole Deadly Genesis thing because it sounded like an unbearably stupid retcon.) That said, Charles has been having an ongoing crisis about his own methods since about 1990 - it would be nice if he would come to a conclusion of some sort. Fingers crossed this is what the book is about, and the flashback angst is set up for that.

It's also nice to see some of my favourite supporting characters. The flashbacks with Moira were great, and I have high hopes that Amelia Voght may get to be a regular for this series. This issue also feeds my inexplicable soft spot for Exodus. (I think he's a great idea for a character, even if the execution has usually been less than stellar.)

Too soon to tell if Carey can write Erik as well, but at least he doesn't seem to be a raving loon here! And he is, as previously noted, damned pretty. Liked the development in his relationship with Exodus - of course Bennet would find speaking with him 'distasteful' now that his beloved has become a mere flatscan after M-Day.

Mostly, I am hoping that Charles and Erik get to do something together. I mean, something other than hold hands and drink wine, which is what Excalibur amounted to. The trouble with that bit is that Domestic Bliss is just like canon - it makes a cute fanfic, but as a monthly series it's not exactly replete with excitement and conflict.

Just one thing is bugging me: so Bishop shot at Cable and hit Xavier instead. Fair enough. Except - isn't Cable a telekinetic? Like, the kind that stops bullets in mid-air, rather than letting them hit innocent bystanders? Is there some plausible explanation for that oversight in the relevant issue?

Cable lost his telekinesis and telepathy a little while back as part of a major plotline in Cable and Deadpool. He replaced his powers with a bunch of technology - basically an internet link and a personal forcefield. He's therefore a lot less powerful.

I can't really buy any X-men singles because they're so rare in my area(or I haven't looked hard enough). We got the collection stuff. All I currently own is Ultimate X-men and the Dark Phoenix Saga, but I want moar.

I've read Deadly Genesis, some parts were nice, but the whole background with Moira's students tasted like bad fanfiction. Don't know if I want to continue in that timeline vein.
