Ten Things I Love About Doctor Who

Because it's never too late to jump on this particular bandwagon *g*. A meme of random gooey love for what may be my favourite fandom ever. (Not quite my favourite TV show, but when you add my love for the book/audios/comics/chocolate wrappers ...)
1. The Doctor. In the approximate words of the Brigadier: splendid chap, all of him. I may love some Doctors better than others, but I have a deep and sincere affection for them all.
2. Speaking of which, the Brig. I have many favourite companions, but the inimitable Alaistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart transcends the definition. No other person has managed to love and value the Doctor so consistently and sincerely, regardless of what face he has on. I really would like a cameo from Nicholas Courtney in the new series, because he's a treasure they won't have available forever.
3. I love that the universe of Doctor Who is, like the TARDIS, bigger on the inside. Ostensibly science fiction, it has room in it for any genre in any medium you can think of. To name just three, it's produced a Roman farce, a Western and a musical. I found out just today that Big Finish are commissioning/producing a silent film. For the radio. And I bet it's going to be bloody splendid, too.
4. Gallifrey being destroyed twice. Earth being destroyed twice. Whenever something contradicts previous continuity in this fandom, I can just point and say "well, what do you expect from a show that destroyed Atlantis three different ways?"
5. Russell T. Davies. Heaven knows he has his faults as a writer and a show runner, but I can't say how immensely grateful I am that the revival is in the hands of someone who understands and respects the show's history. (Yes, he does. Remember that in another universe we could have had a continuation of the TVM!) Also, he gave us Gridlock.
6. The BASKET OF TINY KITTENS.
7. The Loose Canon reconstruction of Marco Polo. Obsessive fans get a bad name sometimes, but without them we wouldn't have anything of the burninated serials left, let alone a gorgeous version of one of my favourite stories painstakingly restored in colour.
8. The fact that the classic series was made by people with more imagination than a) money or b) common sense. The dinosaurs in London may look bloody awful, but I'm glad that nobody said, "you know, I don't think the budget will stretch to this. Maybe we should scale things down."
9. Daleks in Trafalgar Square.
10. "These shoes! They fit perfectly!"
For a few hundred other things I love about Doctor Who: Bicycle Race.
