(In other news, I'm not dead or ignoring you, I'm just trying to secure a promotion at work and my parents have been in town this week. I am very tired! But if majority opinion leans that way the archive will open tomorrow.)

ETA: to forestall a round of (completely reasonable!) 'did you get my story?' comments and e-mails that I am too exhausted to answer right now, the stories I'm lacking in are from:

wabbitseason
miriel
kerravonsen and/or jmtorres, writing for the same person. So actually I only need four stories, yay!

If you are not one of these people, please relax. If you are one of these people, I'm not posting this to shame you! Everyone I've heard from has good reasons for being late. But I'm worried that I may have missed something in the e-mail, hence the livejournal notice.

The problem with opening the archive first is that I've found the motivation to finish stories is reduced if the archive is already open. I'm seriously considering it, though.

I could do gen (or possibly het) for Galactica, Farscape and SG-1, and I'd not be adverse to trying Firefly, if that's any help at all -- I've got nothing but free time between now and the 23rd, and was thinking about messing around with some of the unanswered requests from previous years anyway, so, ah, yeah. I'll pinch-hit no problem.

(I should probably also mention the caveat that I've only seen through 4.07 for SG-1, although I've found it amazingly easy to write for.)

It is really, really awful to be hanging on for a *year* waiting for your fic to come in, because someone said oh, yes, they wrote it, sorry it never came through, what you didn't get it?, oh the ISP must not like it, I'll send it again... and they never do, until eventually you figure out they never wrote the thing, but it's too late and no one is going to pinch hit on a year old archive and no one is going to write the damn story.

Open the archive early, without making sure that everyone has a story, and you have no motivation for making sure that the people who are supposed to get stories in actually do, and then real life creeps up on you, and things get dropped. It's human nature and no one's fault, but I strongly suggest avoiding it.

BTW, I did volunteer to pinch hit if anyone wants any combo of the fandoms I can write -- any Treks, farscape, and blake's 7. So if any of the ones you need pinch hitting on fill those criteria feel free to call on me.

I'm seconding alara_r's point about possibly never receiving some fics if the archive is opened without all the fics. I've been in ficathons where my fic has never materialised, and it's a bit of a bummer.

I'd be willing to pinch hit any fics involving Firefly, Doctor Who, BSG and Stargate: Atlantis.
