I'm finally back at work now I can talk again, and it is completely dead. Expect spam throughout the afternoon and evening! So, mainly for my own benefit, a list of all the TV shows I need to finish/start.

Currently Airing Shows I Need To Catch Up On

House - I mainlined almost all of Season Three while I was off work, and now have just a couple of episodes to go. *clings to Foreman*
The Wire - I'm one disc away from the end of Season One. Is the rest of the show this INCREDIBLY AWESOME?
Battlestar Galactica - I have no idea why I haven't watched anything past the middle of Season Two. Next thing to catch up on, I think.
Spooks - I still lack a source for Season Five, woe.
Lost - Need to watch Season Three. Not sure if I'll get around to that before Season Four starts or not, although I'd like to.
Hustle - I wish the ABC would hurry up and air Season Three/Four.
The 4400 - Have not seen Season Three yet, but it's coming out on DVd here soon so I can rent it.
Scrubs - Have seen the first two seasons on DVD courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] apathocles. No doubt she will lend me the rest in time *g*.

Concluded Shows I Need to Finish

American Gothic - yes, [livejournal.com profile] selenak, I know it's taken me years to finish. But I have the DVDs now!
Sapphire and Steel - I'm half way through, getting the rest from Quickflix.
Transformers - have not rewatched Season Three since I was a kid, and that's without considering Beast Wars et al.
Alias - except I don't know if I actually want to watch Season Five or not.
Carnivale - except I don't know if I want to watch Season Two or not.
Life on Mars - I have still only seen the first four episodes, as I work Sunday evenings. *sobs quietly until the ABC releases it on DVD*
Jeremiah - I taped this when it aired here a couple of years back, but missed so many episodes that I've only seen the first half. (More or less.)
News Radio - another sitcom [livejournal.com profile] apathocles hooked me on. I trust she shall provide me with another fix in due course.
The X-Files - my quest to watch the whole thing in order from the beginning continues. Slowly.
Angel - I feel like such a bad fan for never having seen the whole series.
Batman: The Animated Series - I wish the rest would come out on DVD here already!
Battlestar Galactica 1978 - I've seen the first four or five episodes, and may watch the rest eventually. It's not like it would take me very long.

Anime

Since [livejournal.com profile] quixotic_sense is no longer in the country, I watch a lot less anime :-(. Most of this is stuff she introduced me to that I need to finish watching. Or stuff she sent me that I haven't started watching.

Berserk
Fullmetal Alchemist
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Saiyuki
Twelve Kingdoms
Read or Die
Witch Hunter Robin
Monster
Meine Leibe
Gunkatsokou
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Susuyo

Childhood Friends I Need To Catch Up With

X-Men: The Animated Series - oh, the slashy, slashy nostalgia!
Daria - I have all of this sitting on the hard drive, except for the last few episodes of Season Three.
Press Gang - I've still not watched my Season Five DVDs.

Friends I Haven't Met

The West Wing - The Aunt has this, and the first season is currently sitting on my floor. Must watch and return before she kills me.
Blood Ties - After I've finished reading the books!
Dexter - I am told I would like this, and see no reason to disagree *g*.
Stargate: Atlantis - I have all of this courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] wychwood and, er, have only watched the first episode. I promise I'll at least see out the season eventually!
Rome - I have Season One courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] quixotic_sense, just didn't get around to it yet.
Deadwood - See above.
X-Men: Evolution - I have watched bits of this, but never in any sort of order. I have the first couple of season on the harddrive, though, so some day ...

If there's something else I should be watching, now would be a good time to tell me. For example, Burn Notice: Y/N?

Scrubs - Have seen the first two seasons on DVD courtesy of apathocles. No doubt she will lend me the rest in time *g*.

Well, the third season, anyway. *g* It was at that point that I started going off it. Yet another in the long line of shows that went way too long. *sigh*

Transformers - have not rewatched Season Three since I was a kid, and that's without considering Beast Wars et al.

We will be remedying that, never fear. *g*

Carnivale - except I don't know if I want to watch Season Two or not.

Same here. If not for the fact that we're going to be cramming in a million shows as it is, I'd suggest seeing if we can find a video store with season 2. (Hell, I'm half-tempted to suggest it, anyway.)

Jeremiah - I taped this when it aired here a couple of years back, but missed so many episodes that I've only seen the first half. (More or less.)

Yeah, I didn't mind what little random bits of this I could find in late-night deathslots. *sigh*

News Radio - another sitcom apathocles hooked me on. I trust she shall provide me with another fix in due course.

Heh. Alas, I think that's all that's available on DVD right now, but I can probably bring along a few of my ancient tapes.

The X-Files - my quest to watch the whole thing in order from the beginning continues. Slowly.

Are you going to watch the last few seasons? D:

Dexter - I am told I would like this, and see no reason to disagree *g*.

Still only seen one ep, but yes, it is the awesome. And if you like that, you need to watch Six Feet Under, because Michael C. Hall is love.

Rome - I have Season One courtesy of quixotic_sense, just didn't get around to it yet.

Also want to see this, since it got so royally screwed by Nein.

Deadwood - See above.

I was a bit eh about Deadwood, but then again, I was half-asleep at the time, so I'm thinking I'd like it better were I to watch it awake.

Bring my Good Guys, Bad Guys DVDs with me? Y/N

We must! Please to be bringing your Season Three boxes!

Will do! Just remind me a day before I leave to pack them. Same with the NewsRadio tapes. I'm pretty sure I won't be forgetting any of the TF. *g*

Perhaps if we find time we can brave it together?

If we are drunk enough, maybe. *is apparently determined to drink self into stupor*

Yes! I have actually never seen it, to my deep shame.

Well, it was on Nein late at night, so I forgive you. Pretty much exactly the same era as Due South, and with a similar feel, although not quite as cracky. But it does have Travis McMahon. Mmm.

*tries to work out whether it would be feasible to watch the entirety of Beast Wars in one day, or whether just giving you the highlights would be better*

Hopefully I will actually make it to Melbourne, and then we can catch up on anime. ^_~

Which reminds me: I need to start on The Wire and 4400. I lost interest in BSG towards the end of season 2, alas. Also, Dexter is love -- so is Deadwood, but YMMV. I ended up really liking the character whom most fans seem to hate.

American Gothic: I offer crossover incentive to finish (http://selenak.livejournal.com/299397.html).

Carnivale: you don't. Trust me on this.

Alias s5: am torn. Because it's not such a clear-cut case as s2 of Carnivale; there is a lot of stuff I enjoyed in s5. Among other things, it's one of the few instances where the pregnancy of a leading actress is used in a really good way for the character (instead of feeling artificially inserted). The comparison to Aeryn's pregnancy in s4 of Farscape is especially glaring. No pod!Syd here, she's splendid that season. There is a scene where Irina tells her one can't be a good mother and a good agent at the same time (with the implication that this is a choice Irina had to make), and Sydney replies: "Watch me." And she really pulls it off, without this feeling Sue-ish. Also, Jack's idea of babysitters is to die for. And I do like new bad girl Peyton (Amy Acker having fun as a villain) and new good girl Rachel (taking over slinking dress SpyBarbie duties as long as Jen Garner is pregnant and having a nice relationship with Sydney and a slashy one with Peyton).

But. But. But. The whole new backstory for Vaughn? Very weak attempt to let him join the "everyone has a secret past" fun. (That's for Bristows and Derevkos, damm it!) Not nearly enough Jack. And you just don't want to know about Irina and Arvin in the finale. Especially Irina. (I can fanwank the Sloane stuff, though it still annoys me.) Makes no sense at all. Really, the First Gen spies were all better off in the s4 finale, which is also better written.

On the other other hand? Let's just say in the midst of grring and argghing, I felt faintly smug about my Merlin and Nimue simile and thought, wow, does that mean we have canonical *insert fanfic cliché you used in a story for Xavier and Magneto* for Jack and Sloane?

Am really torn. But mostly of the opinion s4 would have been a fabulous last season.

And again I repeat my rec for Dexter.

That struck me as stupid from the moment it was introduced at the end of Season Four, so I'm not surprised it turned out that way. It would make more sense for Weiss to turn out to have a secret past, for heaven's sake!

Yes. And Bill Vaughn = Andre Michaux, angsty French spy who got new identity in US, making his son the biggest threat ever to yet another secret organization... it's just too much, even for Alias. Vaughn is supposed to be normal guy. Leave him at that.

I can cope with one third of my favourites being dead, it's the other two thirds being Evol that I have issues with!

Quite. As I said, I can fanwank Sloane, because it's pretty obvious he has a mental breakdown after Nadia dies (and indeed one of the producers confirmed that the Nadia he keeps seeing afterwards isn't supposed to be a real ghost, it's Sloane punishing himself), which means anything he does has the "should be in psychiatric treatment right now" get out clause, and I actually love one episode particularly from late season 5, with him in that breakdown phase: Anna Espinosa has made herself look like Sydney (that project Helix stuff again), Syd caught up with her and poses as Anna to infiltrate bad guys, cue scorching scenes with Sloane (who is half a prisoner, half an advisor of bad guys at this point), Sloane, thinking that Syd = Anna, tries to kill her to avenge Sydney (and gets pretty close before figuring out that Syd = Syd), and this throws Sydney so much. It's like dark fic on screen.

But Irina. My poor, poor Irina. No breakdown clause (and no sign of Nadia caring) anywhere to justify what they did to her in the finale. She does James Bond villain stuff! SARK gets more dimensional than her, and that's just wrong.

... they have sex in a cave?! (OK, that's not the only fanfic cliche I've ever used, but for some reason that's what leapt to mind *g*.)

Welllll. Let me put it this way. At the end of the finale? There is a cave. There is Sloane. There is Jack. (True, Jack mostly dead, but this is a cave full of immortality juice, and Sloane just made himself immortal, a step which necessitated previous death - and he makes Syd kill him and then resurrects once she's out of sight, at which point lethally wounded! Jack shows up in that cave to trap the two of them forever 'n ever - so Jack's state of deadness is just a temporary problem from a fanfic pov. There is also a looooooooooot of time underground, as Sloane in true Merlin fashion is trapped there.

Hah, on the SGA thing. I'd almost forgotten about that! *g*

With Jeremiah - I have the DVDs, so should you want a complete set of the first season, I may be able to sort you something out? But I'm not sure, it'd take a bit of poking around with my technology.

Does that mean you'd like me to try? There are programs that rip DVDs for Linux, I know; I used one a year or so back, when I was having trouble with one of my DVDs. I just don't have them installed at the moment, and it wouldn't be a massively speedy process, that's all. So, um - if you'd like me to try, I'll have a go? And do you want the whole season, or only some episodes?

Lost, The 4400, and Scrubs are on my Must-Watch List as well.

The only anime series on your list of which I've seen anything (about halfway through, at this pont) is Full Metal Alchemist. I think I can safely say that you'll like that one a lot. Terrific world-building, stellar characterization, fascinating relationships, and brutal twists. Can't wait to see what you think of it.

I'm also looking forward to reading your reactions to X-Men: Evolution. *g* But you knew that.

I like your list. We have quite a few intersections on our in-progress/watch sometime lists.

Bump up Dexter!

I'd highly recommend ReGenesis:

I actually came here to tell you I rec'd a story of yours:
