andraste: Why, yes, this is my tentacle sex icon ... (Shiny Objects)
Despite having been on holiday in our nation's capital (where I had a lovely time) I've been checking the Project Fedora Kickstarter twice a day.

Back in the nineties, Under A Killing Moon and Overseer were two of my favourite adventure games. (No, I never played The Pandora Directive, widely regarded as the best of the three FMV games. I lived in rural Australia and getting these things was not easy. Now that GOG exists, I do own it, but I need to replay UaKM before plunging in.) My brother and I spent many hours guiding down-on-his-luck future PI Tex Murphy through his adventures.

Back in 1998, Overseer ended on a cliffhanger that the producers intended to follow up in a new game. Unfortunately, Access Software were bought out by Microsoft, who had no interest in the franchise at all. (They just wanted to own the rights to Links. Stupid golf games ...) For the last fourteen years, Aaron Conners and Chris Jones have been trying to find a way to continue the series.

Tim Shafer's Double Fine project brought a lot of attention to adventure games on Kickstarter, but while I gave money to both that and Jane Jensen's Pinkerton Road launch, this is the one that's got me really excited. I have been waiting for this thing for almost half my life!

Alas, my current state of unemployment means that I can't pledge even half as much as I'd like to, and the project needs another $200,000 in twenty-two days if Tex is going to appear in all his FMV glory. Given the quality of the previous installments, I think it's well worth throwing in $15 to pre-order the game if you like point-and-click adventures. And even if you don't, why not consider throwing in $5 for the warm fuzzy glow of making me happy and helping bring the world a great game?
