3 – For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?

I don't think anyone is interested in me listing my favourite characters for all forty of those fandoms, are they? So let's just stick with my top ten.

X-Men: Almost every X-Men story I've written (the exceptions are some drabbles, a 'common people' comicverse story and a remix) has Charles Xavier in it. He's not just my favourite X-Men character to write, but my favourite fictional person full stop. I've also written a lot of Magneto.

Farscape: This is an unusual one for me, in that instead of just sticking with my favourites I've written most of the characters at some point. The Farscape Friday drabble community encouraged me to stretch myself during the time I was most actively writing it. My clear favourites to write are Crais, Scorpius and Zhaan, but I had a lot of fun writing Harvey and Braca, not to mention Talyn and Sikozu. I have more favourite characters in Farscape than any other fandom.

Babylon 5: I am all about the Centauri and the Narn in this fandom, and Londo and G'Kar talking to each other is one of my favourite things to write in the whole world. (They may or may not be having tentacle sex at the same time.) I've also written lots of Vir, and I think I've doubled the number of Na'Toth stories on the web single-handedly. I enjoyed writing Bester, although I've only done so once thus far. Some day I must write something about Kosh, but Vorlons are difficult.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: I am all about Giles and Ethan and also the Trio, especially Andrew Wells. Some day I will write a story that has Giles and Andrew interacting, even.

Doctor Who: I think this is the only fandom where I don't really have a set of favourite characters. Or, rather, I have so many of them it's a meaningless list. I mean, I love all of the Doctor, and I have more than a dozen favourite companions and also the Master. What I enjoy most is having all of that available to play with, so I love writing stories that cross eras and have characters who never met in canon interacting.

due South: I am a Vecchio girl all the way in this fandom. Not that I don't love Fraser and intead Kowalski, I just can't see myself writing anything longer than a ficlet that doesn't have RayV in it.

Alias: First Generation Spies 4 Eva! Jack, Sloane and Irina are my equal favourites.

The Authority: I love the Doctor, and by the Doctor I mean Jeroen, not whoever they replaced him with. *sadface*

Transformers: I am a predictable Starscream fangirl, and almost everything I've ever written or planned to write in this fandom has him in it. I'm very attached to Megatron, too, though, and one of these days I need to write more about Soundwave and Galvatron and Cyclonus.

Blake's 7: Blake and Avon are my characters of choice here. I may love Blake slightly more, I think, but they're both fun to write. The reason I've never written more in this fandom is that there's so much fic about those two already, it seems unnecessary for me to add any.

Quite a few of those one-off fandoms are accounted for by drabbles/ficlets/crossovers. It's probably worth noting that if you combine all the X-Men universes together, I've written a total of forty-one stories about mutants, making it the clear winner. As for whether I still write in these fandoms, well, I haven't posted must of anything for a while now. I never really leave fandoms, though, and if I've written something more than once or twice there's a good chance I have other ideas I'd like to get around to. I definitely have more X-Men, Babylon 5, Transformers and Doctor Who stories in me.

So, this year I am planning to write for both Yuletide and NaNoWriMo, although I'll probably aim for a lower word count than the traditional NaNo goal. It's been so long since I've written anything that I feel the need for a warm-up before I start.

However, it's also been so long since I've written anything than I've lost the thread of all my WIPs and I don't know what I want to write about. Since the internet is never short on people with ideas about what I should write, though, I appeal to you!

Here are some fandoms I could probably write something in at the moment. )

Obviously those are not all the fandoms I'm familiar with, but those are the ones where I am up-to-date with canon and could write something without having to extensively review material which I may or may not have to hand. I make no promises, but throw some ideas at me and we'll see if anything happens.

So, in a few days time, it will be my thirtieth birthday! I am excited about this and not wishing I was turning twenty-nine again. This is an extra important day, since it is also the anniversary of the day I delurked and posted my first ever fanfic on February 22nd, 2000. (And then had to repost it to the mailing list with apologies because my formatting was borked. Ah, youth.)

I'm planning to do a couple of things to mark the occasion, and wanted some input from you guys on what exactly you'd like to see.

If Andaste were to record podfic, I would like to hear this story:

An increasingly complete archive of my stories is available on the AO3 and you can also use the fanfiction tag here if it's been so long since I posted fic regularly that you've forgotten everything I ever wrote *g*.

If anyone feels like getting me a present, here is what I would like:

a) Icons! I have far more room on Dreamwidth than I have icons to fill the spaces.

b) Recs for fanfiction and (especially) vids you think I would like.
andraste: Why, yes, this is my tentacle sex icon ... (Shiny Objects)
... so I am sitting here at midnight writing some fic for Springkink. Yes, you read that correctly: Andraste is writing and it is fic. People who have arrived on my journal recently may not realise it, but this has been known to happen.

Apparently what I needed to start getting the fic-writing part of my brain unstuck was shameless pr0n. Pr0n about lawyers who shout 'objection!' at each other! (I got a Nintendo DS a couple of months ago when the government gave me a massive tax return for being poor. I have been playing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. My love for Miles Edgeworth is already epic.)

So, I have a bunch of prompts I'd like to claim for Springkink, but there's a whole lot of fandoms I'm interested in that don't end up there. Here is my offer to you: make a comment on this post with a pairing and a kink and I'll see what I can come up with. A few guidelines:

1. No promises I will actually write anything you suggest, but I figure anything that might help unstick my brain is in a good cause. Feel free to make multiple requests to improve the chances that one of them might strike a spark.

2. I am familiar with rather a lot of fandoms; try checking my tags for the main ones.

3. Naturally, pairings and kinks that I am interested in have a better chance of getting picked up. There are not many kinks I actively avoid, but I am not into bodily fluids other than the ones inherently involved in sex. Mentor/student pairings also squick me to hell and back.

4. Anonymous commenting will be switched on, so if you're embarrassed asking for tentacle pron feel free to take advantage of this. I do not log IPs.

5. Please don't worry if we don't know each other! I'm happy to try my hand at fic for anyone who happens to be passing.

Since it's been so very long since I actually posted a story, I fear I may have forgotten how to respond to feedback *g*. (Well, writing feedback. You all leave me plenty of lovely vid feedback.) Nevertheless, this meme was too interesting to pass up ...

Give me the title of a story I've never written, and feedback telling me what you liked best about it, and I will tell you any of: the first sentence, the last sentence, the thing that made me want to write it, the biggest problem I had while writing it, why it almost never got posted, the scene that hit the cutting room floor but that I wish I'd been able to salvage, or something else that I want readers to know.

The "You Should Write..." Meme!
my thread here

I suspect that the dominant answer here is likely to be 'Something! Anything!' but I'm always curious *g*.

So, I need something to get me writing fanfic again, and I didn't want to sign up for any exchanges that would be messed up if I failed to complete them. I also have a bunch of vague fic ideas in fandoms that are not part of Multiverse. Enter [livejournal.com profile] cliche_bingo, with its randomised list of twenty-four prompts of cliche-ridden goodness!

My card below the cut ... )

So, since [livejournal.com profile] penknife posted her awesome fanfiction cliche poll, I have been looking at the list and contemplating the ones I've not written. I have only done eight! This does not seem like nearly enough. I need to write more cliche fic. Or just some fic, full stop, actually.

Cut for ramblings on the specifics. )
andraste: The reason half the internet imagines me as Patrick Stewart. (Default)
List three stories you think I will never ever write, and I will attempt to write a snippet of one of them.

Given how long it's been since I wrote anything, I am not promising you more than an sentence each *g*.
andraste: The reason half the internet imagines me as Patrick Stewart. (Default)
Gacked from[livejournal.com profile] musesfool. I took 'written' to mean 'has a speaking part in one of my stories.'

Italics for the characters you've written 1-3 times.
Bold the ones you've written 4-9 times.
Italics and bold for the ones you've written 10+ times.
Underline the ones you're intending to write, or have in unfinished story form.
Leave alone the ones you don't write/haven't written.
Add any that you have written (if they're not on here).

Long, long list of fabulous ladies. )

Fic Quest!

As you may have noticed, I am on a fic-posting binge and the moment. (Sorry for the slow responses to feedback! At the latest, I'll get back to you all on the weekend when I can actually answer lj comments. I can post from work via e-mail, but I can't reply to comments due to limited internet access.) Having run out of almost-finished stories languishing on my hard drive, I have turned my attention to the giant list of unwritten drabble prompts you people have given me over the last couple of years.

Given that I'm on a roll here, now might be a good time to throw a few more on the pile.

Twenty Fandoms I Can Write )

So, you know, toss me a fic prompt if you feel like it, we'll see what I can do *g*.

Since you've all been so helpful with that High School AU I Am NOT Writing so far, any suggestions on the below? You were all so good at giving me ideas for Leela. But I don't know what to do with:

Sara Kingdom
Kamelion
Grace Holloway
Frobisher
Laura 'Compassion' Tobin
Chris Cwej
Roz Forrester
Fitz Kreiner
Trix McMillan

The school already has one fierce hockey mistress, which would otherwise be a natural role for Sara. I'm not sure what to do with the shapeshifters, and for some reason I'm having trouble envisioning Grace in a British school setting. The rest are book companions I've not even met! (Anji Kapoor was easy even sight unseen, since every school needs a Bursar.)

Not that every Doctor Who character ever invented needs to have a starring role in this entirely hypothetical story, but I feel the need to know where everyone is, somehow.
andraste: The reason half the internet imagines me as Patrick Stewart. (Default)
You've probably noticed I'm not very good at writing to story requests
lately, so I'm going to try something different to get over this mild dose
of writer's block. My theory is that you're all asking for the wrong fandoms
... not that I know what the right fandoms would be.

So: give me a word, any word, I'll shake my brain and see if a drabble of
some sort falls out.
andraste: The reason half the internet imagines me as Patrick Stewart. (Default)
As of today, I am on holiday for nine days. Hooray! So:

The rules are simple. You comment with your username, and people can tell you what they want to see you write. Or draw, or vid, or icon, whatever. Despite the name, they don't have to do it anonymously, though of course they certainly can. You then go through the comments and if you see that person who you've always wanted to write a Green Arrow AU set in the Terror, where Ollie is a Scarlet Pimpernel-esque figure, smuggling people out of Paris, then you tell them that they should write it.

Artists/writers/vidders are under no obligation to actually create these things, of course. But those memes are always fun when they go 'round and, well, I don't know about you, but I have no shame left and am fully willing to call a spade a spade: TELL ME WHAT TO WRITE, PLEASE!

Go here and tell me what to write. I think it's more fun if the requests are anonymous, because then I get to guess who made them *g*.

Also, anyone who guesses which fandom I wrote 500 words in last night at work wins a special prize. I'll give you one hint to start you off: I've loved it since I was four and have never written in the fandom before.
andraste: The reason half the internet imagines me as Patrick Stewart. (Default)
It's completely dead here at work and I'll be finished the only book I
brought well within the next four hours. I've finished the last part of
Like Nobody's Watching - does anybody want to beta the whole set of
ten once I've cleaned it up, by the way? - and don't have any drafts/notes
for the million other stories I should be working.

Ergo: let's ring in the New Year with drabbles! No promises, but please feel
free to request anything in any of my fandoms and I'll have a stab at it. A
very partial list of fandoms I'm sufficiently familiar with would include
just about any version of X-Men, Farscape, Babylon 5,
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alias, and any iteration of
Doctor Who except book continuity.
