And the quick sketches of characters that brought them very much to life is one think I enjoyed about RTD's episodes, very much.

It's a strength of his writing that I really didn't appreciate enough until he'd moved on. Obviously much harder than it looks. (On the whole I love Moffat Who more than Rusty Who for various reasons, but RTD is so much better at quickly introducing an interesting guest cast.)
