I'll always be grateful to Chris Claremont's obsession with powerful female characters.
You know, it was years before I consciously realized what a gift it was that my introduction to comics (well, nearly) was New Mutants--right off the bat, I got to have female characters who had their own individual personalities, kicked ass in a fight, didn't exist to be love interests, and started out the book outnumbering the male characters. Hell, they didn't even wear anything different than what the guys did. Whatever flaws Claremont has, there really is a lot there to be thankful for.
