The short version: every now and then TV is triggery in a non-bad way.

Speaking as someone currently trying to drag myself out of my semi-annual plunge into the deep, dark pit of mental illness, I have no critical perspective on this episode at all. Mainly I spent every scene where Vincent's condition was dealt with pointing at the screen saying 'yes! It is like THAT!' It's rare for depression to be treated realistically and respectfully on TV.

And I was so, so glad they didn't 'fix' him, but the Doctor is right. Adding things to the pile of good stuff is always worthwhile, even if it didn't prevent his ultimate suicide. (And I smiled when he said that the haystacks being in the museum was 'embarrassing' - the National Gallery in Canberra has one of those, too, and I visit it every time I'm there.)

I don't know when I'll be able to watch that again, but I'm glad they made it.
