WTF, Subconscious?
Sep. 9th, 2009 03:29 pmSo, the other night I had a dream where all the characters from M*A*S*H were anthropomorphized animals. I was watching the show on TV as I do on weekday evenings, and somehow it had always been this way.
Radar was an adorable floppy-eared puppy dog of some indeterminate mixed breed, which seems appropriate to me. He's smart and loyal and friendly, with your average dog's hatred of baths. Father Mulcahy was a hare, which almost makes sense given their propensity for boxing *g*. And Frank Burns, in defiance of his canonical nick-names ... was a penguin. A king penguin, to be specific. You guys, I don't even know. I do remember reflecting in the dream that the others were awfully hard on him, since it couldn't be easy being a penguin surgeon in Korea, when you're miles away from the ocean and have only flippers to operate with.
The species of the rest of the cast were not specified by my dream, which may be just as well. I guess Potter would be an actual old war horse in the scenario. Winchester wasn't there yet - why my subconscious insisted on sticking to the correct cast composition under the circumstances, I do not know - but if he had been, I feel that he would have been a highly bred Persian cat. I can just see his perpetually disapproving expression and hear him complaining about the difficultly of keeping one's fur in good order under such adverse conditions. And imagine Hawkeye telling him that he's pretty high and mighty for someone who cleans himself with spit.
... possibly I have thought about this too hard.
