The next Doctor ...

... so my first reaction was 'who?' I've never heard of Matt Smith until just now. This will be the first time the Doctor has been younger than me.

I think going with another skinny white boy is a boring choice right after Tennant. However, that doesn't say anything about how he'll handle the role. After all these years, I do trust Moffat's judgement, and I hear the new boy was properly enthused during the Confidential. I am certainly not prepared to declare that Smith will ruin the show forever based on such scant evidence :-).

Apparently we are going to have to wait until at least 2013 or so to get a person of colour or a woman (or both!) in the part, but it certainly could have been worse.

Oh, that's good to hear.

Also, his first story is apparently in 2010 so they have time to come up with something awesome as a twist on the skinny white boy formula (my daydreams start with words like alien make-up and then wander into other places like cocky eejit Doctor or Valeyard). I believe in Stephen Moffatt.

I watched the interview and I really liked him :) I liked the way he waved his hands about and wiggled his fingers, and even though he's another skinny white boy, at least he's not 'hawt', so hopefully a lot of the Tennant fangirls will go away :)

He seemed to me to have a Tom Baker/McCoy/Tennant-ness about him :)

I wanted Paterson Joseph so much. *sighs* I'm sure Matt Smith will do a good job, and all, but I thought they were going to be a bit more daring.

Still! New Doctor! It's always exciting!

Hrm. I hope he does something about that hair!

God, I feel old as I type that.

I watched the extended interview and remain quietly hopeful.

(Though if he keeps his hands wandering about the shop like the interview the fandom will have a serious hand fetish by the end of it all.)

When he accidently spilled about the scripts he's read his hands seemed to have a faster reaction time than his mouth!

(I set one of the promo shots as my wallpaper to see if I'll get used to having him around. *is shot*)

That is a good sign. I don't think I've ever seen him in anything so I can't really say much. *shrugs*

I didn't get to see the interview, so I didn't know he was a hand waver. As a fellow sufferer, I find it incredibly endearing.
