I think what's worrying people is that Davies relationship to Who is being painted in the general media in the light of the modern US auteur-theory of series TV (Bochco, Sorkin, Straczynski, Whedon, Chase, Moore etc) and that this attitude might cause both the media and maybe the BBC to assume that anyone else's work could only be a pale imitation of Davies at best.
That is a good point. I do hope the BBC (if not the media) is smart enough to work out that Doctor Who was around long before RTD was a famous writer, and should be around long after he's moved on. If only so that the new fans of today can complain endlessly about how the show isn't as good as it used to be ...
