I've been planning to save up my Torchwood remarks until after I've seen everything, but going on past experience I don't think I could stand to sit and watch a Chris Chibnall episode after what I've just seen.

That was ... I have no words. My favourite episode thus far. Unsurprising, since it focused on my two favourite characters and my third favourite got to shoot Owen. (Not that I have anything against Owen, mind, but Ianto shooting him? Rocked.) Tosh was lovely and clever and charmingly awkward as always, and firmly in the spotlight for once. The villain was fabulously creepy. And Jack and Jack? Just beautiful.

What really blew me away about this episode was the way it made sense of the most puzzling thing about Torchwood to date: Jack not sex00ring everything with a pulse. (Well, not on screen. He's been playing exciting stopwatch games with Ianto when we're not looking.) I'm still wondering if there'll turn out to be some plot-related reason involving his inability to die, but the thematic reason here would be enough of an explanation for me.

If Jack had been cheerfully shagging his way through the regulars and guest stars all season, there's no way they'd have been able to crank up the sexual tension between Jack and Jack to such an unbearable level. I was shouting 'just kiss him already!' by half way through, and it was definitely worth it when it finally happened.

Jack's gaydar must be on the fritz if he didn't realise immediately that his namesake did not want to go home with that woman, though. He looked as though he'd rather run naked through a blackberry field. Poor Nancy, doomed on multiple levels. I kind of hope nobody told her about her dead boyfriend's big gay kiss.

Someone on the Torchwood LJ community pointed out earlier to day that that episode was remarkably close to on-screen slash fiction. I wonder if Catherine Tregenna has any web pseudonyms?
