(Looking at my last few stories, I think my 'Dragon Age' brand - insofar as I have one - is 'two characters who never really met in canon have UST.' These two were so much fun to write together!)

Look an actual fanfic, that I am posting. As part of a series I last added to four years ago. Nobody faint!

You don't need to read the previous installments of Our Better Angels to understand this one. But if you were going to read a Doctor Who daemonverse AU anyway, you probably might as well?

I started writing this as a Treat for Yuletide 2013. It, uh, took a while to get finished.

RPF is not generally my thing, but I make an exception for stories about the MythBusters fighting zombies, exploring space ... or, apparently, defeating aliens with giant robots.

Man, I started working on this for Half A Moon ... in 2012. But my New Year's Resolution was to Finish More Things, so I guess I am starting out well? (Not that I don't have unfinished stories from all the way back to 1999 on my computer, but most of those probably aren't worth posting.)

It is the time on Yuletide when we all take off our Santa disguises and tell everyone what we wrote. But first: I got three lovely gift stories this year, two from my assigned writer and a treat!

Snickfic wrote me TWO Saga stories about Lying Cat, Lying to a Lying Cat and Not A Hound. If you have the same reaction to Saga and Lying Cat that I do ("IT'S THE GREATEST COMIC EVER! SHE'S A KITTY!") then you really need to read both of these. Together, they provide both a beginning and an ending for her story. And until it gets jossed, that is so my headcanon for where Lying Cat will end up.

On top of that, I got a The Secret World treat story The Wrong Place, Wrong Time Girl from Moontyger! It captures the atmosphere of the game remarkably well, and it was great to see Marianne's story expanded beyond the confines of Solomon Island and her protective suit.

(If I sound more squeeful about my gifts than my treat, it's not because I didn't love the treat just as much, but because I suffer from the effect described in this handy graph.)

Writing-wise, it turned out to be an angsty, slashy Christmas for me. (Entirely by accident - I was working on a few other treats, but didn't get them finished in time. I guess that's what New Year's Resolutions are for.)

This was my assigned story:

Phil and the Yellow Dwarf (1480 words) by Andraste
Fandom: George and the Red Giant
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Phil Beard/George Newbould
Summary: Phil and George meet again under a different sun.

If you are wondering what George and the Red Giant is, it is a gloriously weird audio play in which Peter Jurasik and Andreas Katsulas play two contemporary Americans who find themselves on a strange world under a giant red sun. Where they are also trapped in the bodies of giant flying lemurs. And it only gets weirder and better from there.

(When I googled to find that link, I found that my story is now the fifth link down. Which I guess just goes to show that the source is indeed obscure. And makes me hope that Peter Jurasik and the people at Seeing Ear Theatre don't go around googling their old projects. Not that the slash would surprise them in this case.)

And then I wrote this treat:

White Devil (1215 words) by Andraste
Fandom: Tintin (Comics)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Chang Chong-Chen/Tintin
Summary: Tintin takes a wrong turn on the way down the mountain. (Or: a missing scene from Tintin in Tibet.)

Tintin/Chang is one of my childhood OTPs, and I've been meaning to write something about them ever since I started writing fanfiction. It only took thirteen years.

There is a long story about how I wrote my assignment (seriously, it may be longer than the fic) but I think I'll save that for another day. So, in summary: I got delightful presents, wrote about characters I've been meaning to get to for more than a decade, and produced fanfic about a source that nobody has ever written about before. Definitely a good Yuletide!
andraste: New New Doctor (Tenth Doctor)
So, last week it became apparent that Our Better Angels was missing a part. But since I'd worked out what the War Doctor's daemon should be before I finished watching The Day of the Doctor the second time, here's the missing segment.

You don't have to read that story first, although if you don't know what a Daemonverse AU is, then it would probably help explain.

Word Count: 500-ish.

Rating: PG

Summary: He's never alone. Even when he wishes that he were.

ExpandI'd say 'spoilers', but I don't think this really makes sense without 'The Day of the Doctor' anyway. )

(I really need to finish more stuff in this series, if only to justify the ridiculous lists of Whoverse daemons I've made. For some reason my brain would not let me write more until I'd determined the daemon of EVERY RECURRING CHARACTER in every medium I'm familiar with. I think I can guarantee that I am the only person in all time and space who as ever contemplated what Abslom Daak's daemon would be.)

Contains: Size kink, profound silliness.

A few weeks ago, I saw a prompt on the Les Miserables kink meme: Do you know what this meme needs? Frottage. Any/Any, clothes on, accidental, intercrural, ANYTHING, I just need me some non-penetrative sexy times.

I thought 'hey, I could write a quick fill for that!' And then I wrote this. Great Maker. This ridiculous story is the second-longest thing I have ever posted. I think this is what happens when you let your inner fifteen-year-old fangirl become your co-writer.

Summary: Javert lives and learns. A post-Seine AU.

Pairing: Javert/Valjean

Word Count: 6,730

Continuity: This is stage musical fic where the point of AU divergence involves something that only happens in the Brick. Has some other things borrowed from the Brick, and at least one point of characterisation stolen from the 2012 movie. *waves hands*

Contains: Discussion of a canon suicide that does not work out the same way in this universe, hurt/comfort, pining, angst, fluff, dangerous quantities of clichés, passive-aggressive notes, awkward old French virgins. Some frottage. Eventually. Dammit.

ExpandBut mostly pining. )

The first of the ficlets I promised for the Valentine's Day quotes! (There are still quotes un-guessed, by the way, so if anyone else wants to try their luck ...)

I picked G'Kar's line from the greatest scene ever on television the other day, but this is set during Season One and inspired by the very first time I thought Londo and G'Kar were slashy, way back in Born To the Purple. Because however you slice it, their body language in Season One is weird for two people who hate each other.

Were they played by lesser actors, I'd think it was by accident, but we have plenty of evidence that Peter Jurasik and Andreas Katsulas knew exactly what they were doing, from the way it changes after The Coming of Shadows and then keeps changing based on what Londo and G'Kar think of each other at any given time.

ExpandAnyway, there is an entirely G-Rated drabble in here. )

... aaaaaaaaand insomnia is the perfect excuse to write another thing for Porn Battle before the deadline. At least I have used the time productively, if not wisely. (I am going to blame G'Kar for my sleeplessness and he can blame me for his.)

Contents: Alas, not actually very porny. There are tentacles, though, so if that is not your cup of brivari you should probably go elsewhere.

Pairing: Londo/G'Kar

My longest Yuletide Madness story. And, in fact, the longest thing I wrote for Yuletide this year. (There was just no way that Documentation was going to be longer than it was, given the format.)

On Christmas Eve, I sat down and watched Singin' In The Rain, because what better way to celebrate than to sit down to the greatest musical ever brought to screen? (Especially since I'd done my annual rewatch of Die Hard the night before.) I had vague plans to maybe write a drabble or something for Yuletide Madness. On Christmas night, I sat down to put a few thoughts to keyboard and when I looked up there were five hundred words on the screen. I wrote and posted the whole thing over the course of about four hours, which would have been great if it hadn't resulted in my being awake until THREE IN THE GODDAMN MORNING.

A lot of people responded to this with 'your Cosmo voice is great!' which is just as well since I cannot get him to shut up. I think there may be more stories from me in this fandom eventually, since I have spent the time since Christmas telling certain imaginary people that my kitchen table is not an appropriate location for tap-dancing.

Anyway, I've loved this film since I was about nine. Don/Kathy/Cosmo was my OT3 long before I knew what an OT3 was. I think it shows.

Summary: By the time The Duelling Cavalier was previewed, Cosmo and Kathy were the best of friends. This is how.

Contains: Nothing more salacious than the film, really.

Relationships: If these three had Facebook, there would be liberal use of the 'it's complicated' option.

This was the shortest of my Yuletide Madness treats, and by far the simplest to write as well. I was looking through the letters post back in November when I saw the request and thought 'hey, didn't I have an idea about Clyde and Rani's first kiss?' Most of the work was in cutting it down to one hundred words. Drabbles are good for writerly discipline.

I discovered writing a daemonverse snippet about him that I really like writing Clyde. It is something I should do more of.

Summary: The first time Clyde kisses Rani, he thinks they're going to die.

Pairing: Clyde Langer/Rani Chandra

So, the veil of Yuletide anonymity has been withdrawn, and I can now reveal the things I wrote! My main story and the Madness treats can be seen on my works page at the AO3, but I will be posting them individually here over the next few days. (I like having a complete set of my work online in two different places, because I'm paranoid that way. Also, posting on my own journal gives me a chance to ramble a bit about how and why I wrote what I did.)

Anyway, for my main story this year I was assigned Dollhouse. This is a show about which I have many feelings, but I'd never written anything in the fandom before, so I was pleased to have a reason to do so.

Many of my Dollhouse-Related Feelings are Topher Brink Feelings so when I read my recipient's letter:

Topher, for me, is the best part of Dollhouse. I love that man's brain. Topher being Topher is all I really want-- a little bit of why he's that way would rock my socks.

... I was delighted. And then, briefly, panicked, because how was I going to get Topher to introspect? Then I started thinking about the 'why he's that way' part of the request and how Topher got to where he is and what people would think of him in two hundred years, and, well, the story just happened.

People seem to have liked what I wrote, since this went over bigger than anything I've ever written for Yuletide before. And it turned out to be a good Yuletide for my Topher Brink Feelings, as I also received a story about him!

Summary: Excerpts from 'Destroyer and Saviour: A Selection of Primary Sources Concerning Christopher Brink'.

Contains: Nothing more disturbing than what was on the show.
