I liked how he makes what seems to be a unilateral decision in the future, too - leaving the gang inside and going to blow up the plane - but it's both a good decision and a self-sacrificing one.
He has FINALLY learned something about working in groups by then, but he's also still very much the Magneto we know. Hearing him talk about all the time they've wasted broke my heart.

One of the friends I went with is a huge Nightcrawler fan, and was very much hoping he would be mentioned, so it was on my mind. Given his probable age in X2 and the, uh, unavailability of his father, I'm leaning towards his already having been born and given away as the best current explanation.
I think Erik probably got out of the Pentagon in the regular timeline the exact same way he gets out of the plastic prison in X2: Mystique being awesome. Or maybe Pietro figured out Erik was his dad and sprung him in that timeline too.
