I was struck last year by the tale of the novelist/LJ personality who, on finding herself stranded in Germany due to a visa error (that was entirely her own), had fans and friends call her travel agency's call centre and abuse them on her behalf. Although my BFF was working in a travel agency at the time I heard the story, and that doesn't even begin to cover some of the abuse she received.
