Heroes 1x12: Godsend

andrasteAs Cheesy Voice Over Guy points out, this is the start of Phase Two.
We pick up with our heroes after a two week gap. During this time Niki has been in prison, Peter has been in a coma, Nathan has been at his side, Claire has been pretending to be memory wiped, Hiro and Ando have driven across the country and Matt has sat in his car staking out Primatech. After this pause in the story, the all make decisions here that send their arcs in new directions.
Niki's separation from Micah finally leads her to use her powers herself, leading to an exclamation of 'go Niki!' from me. The psych ward is probably better than the death penalty, but I can see why she'd want to get out of there.
Peter spends his two weeks dreaming of Christopher Eccleston (personally, I can think of worse ways to spend a fortnight *g*) before waking up and planning to fly off to Nevada ... right into the the path of Ted Sprague. Oh dear. Maybe fate does have it in for him.
More interesting than Peter's coma is the effect it has on those close to him. Simone's belief in superpowers is cemented when she sees Isaac again and then meets Hiro. (It's interesting that Peter could convince her where Isaac could not, but I guess Peter isn't a drug addict.) Nathan also begins to take an interest, if only because he doesn't want his brother exploding - taking him along if Peter's vision is accurate in that respect.
Claire reboots her friendship with Zach by jumping off something high - that girl must go through a lot of clothes that end up with bones poked through them - and has a most interesting conversation with the Haitian. She knows enough to be wary of her father, but not enough to know what she should do next. (I mean, eventually she's going to have to go to New York if they need for her to save the world. No idea how that's going to work yet; I imagine she'd survive the explosion herself but I'm not sure how that helps anyone else.)
Meanwhile Matt's raid on Primatech is not entirely without positive effect, albeit not the positive effect he was likely aiming for. Audrey finally prompts him to confess his powers to his wife - I can see this going either way, but he had to say something eventually.
I loved the scene where Mr. Bennet drops by Mohinder's place to give his story a kick in the pants it sorely needed and offer tips on lizard care *g*.
My favourite part of the episode, unsurprisingly, was Hiro. His second meeting with Nathan is just as charming as his first, and they continue to build on that delightfully unexpected connection. ("You flying man. Wooosh!") Hiro and Ando liberating the fake sword from the museum was hysterically funny. I think Hiro needs a counsellor more than he needs the sword, since I suspect his problems with his powers are largely a psychosomatic reaction to Charlie's death. On the other hand, if having a shiny phallic symbol makes him feel better and helps him save the world? I'm all in favour *g*.

Date: 2007-06-24 02:37 am (UTC)Nathan's connection with Hiro is charming and unexpected, and yet makes sense in a way because Hiro is so much like Peter, but without the emotional baggage. He's wide-eyed and innocent and idealistic, and Nathan can find some relief and a refreshing change in indulging Hiro without worrying about it the way he can't help but worry about Peter.

Always a frustrating feeling, and one I'm familiar with. I was more of a Tenth Doctor girl from the moment he started hopping around *g*. It did crack me up when one of the first words out of Claude's mouth was 'fantastic.'

Absolutely. I'm just dying to get more backstory on the Haitian - why he's working for HRG, and why he's disobeyed orders and left Claire's memory intact.

Each time I read or hear one of the "Eccleston = One True Doctor" raves, I want to point out that a) there were eight other gents playing the role before him, several of which I liked better in it, and b) even if we're talking New Who only, I still like Ten better than Nine!
I'm just dying to get more backstory on the Haitian - why he's working for HRG, and why he's disobeyed orders and left Claire's memory intact.
The Haitian just got a four part backstory at the webcomics, but that has slight spoilers, so again, no linking for you. You will find out on the show why he disobeyed orders, though.
