SDCC Toy Joy
So, Sandeigo Comic Con is over for a year. If there was any exciting news about the shows I love, my flist has not informed me so far. (Of course, I tend to be pretty spoiler-avoidant anyway.)
However, it seems that Hasbro and Mattel are trying to get me to give them all the money I make at my new job. Nothing exciting revealed in the Marvel Legends line, but there were lots of shiny Transformers. We're getting a Universe Cyclonus to go with Universe Galvatron, and a repaint of Animated Activators Bumblebee as Cliffjumper, with a new headsculpt! Here's hoping they make Wasp in the same scale.
Also on show were many more Robot Heroes to swell the ranks of my tiny robot army, including Ironhide, Blaster and Thrust. The appearance of a Conehead is especially cool, as it means we're bound to see the other two soon.
Even cooler than the transforming robots, though, was Mattel's DC comics panel. Because, dude. I cannot even tell you how awesome their news was, so I'm going to show you instead.
First up, classic Ted Kord:

And to go with him, Booster!

Curse you, Mattel, for making me buy 6" DC figures. I am slightly consoled by the fact that they will be the right size to hang out with my X-Men Marvel Legends. I may be forced to buy more if they make certain other DC characters I have come to love.
Nifty as the DC Universe Classics line was, though, the news about Justice League Unlimited is freakin' unbelievable. This is a line everyone thought was pretty much over with - the show ended a couple of years ago, it's only being sold in Target in the US and has been impossible to find at retail. Most people thought we'd see four new figures and that would be it. Instead, Mattel have made good on their statement that this is now a collector's line by ... well, take a look at this.

In just one shot, that's five new League members, a repaint of Booster in the costume he usually wears on the show and two members of the Crime Syndicate. (Who didn't even make it into the televised series. Their appearance here has started people talking again about that direct-to-video movie Timm and co. were planning.) But there's more.

None of this lot are must-haves for me - I'm just not that picky about Doctor Fate's boots - but that is a nice repaint of Elongated Man.

This shot is mostly notable because you can see Old Bruce Wayne. Old Bruce Wayne! Who would have thought they would give us a figure? Maybe we could even have Alfred next ...

Anyone who thinks guys do not want to buy toys of women has not been hanging around message board listening to them shriek with joy over Cheetah and Tala. And it's not just 'cause fanboys want scantily-clad superheroines. These same men are clamouring for an Amanda Waller figure, which I am now thinking we just might get.
Meanwhile, I am digging Lex's prison orange look here.

So much love for minor villains in this line! They just released a box with Lashina, Forager, and Mantis. Now Psycho Pirate, Dr. Polaris and the Gentleman Ghost.

And here is the most awesome part. LOOK AT THE ICKLE QUESTION!!! I have been waiting for this figure for years. We knew he was coming before the con, but it's so nice to see him standing there next to Flash. He is probably telling him about the link between Girl Scouts and crop circles.
Just to put the icing on the cake, Mattel will also be selling exclusive figures through their website. You can tell that these are really collectors sets, because seven-year-olds do not dance around the room when they find out there's going to be a Clock King action figure.

I mean, Clock King! If they can make him, they can make anyone. I love DCAU Clock King, but I certainly never thought we'd see him enshrined in plastic. Better still, he comes in a pack with Harley Quinn and the New Batman Adventures version of Scarecrow. Also Bane, who I don't care about one way or another but will happily buy to get the other three.
I have already bought two SDCC exclusives - JLU Giganta and the Time Crash set that has the Fifth Doctor with celary - and am planning to pick up Hasbro's Titanium Skywarp as well. Toy industry, I am happy to give you my money if you keep giving me so much shiny.
