Stuff that has happened over the past week:

1. Local anti-vaxxer riots that involved people spitting on healthcare workers and pissing on the Shrine of Remembrance.

2. An actual earthquake.

3. RTD is returning to Doctor Who.

4. Plague continues, da capo al fine.

5. JMS is rebooting Babylon 5 on the CW?????????

I think that I am going back to bed before something else happens.

This would be a great time for a first interplanetary or interdimensional first contact - we're all already on "sure, why not, this might as well happen too" mode.

Ever since last year, I've been assuming we'd react with 'hey, can you guys come back later? We're kind of busy right now.'

It feels way too soon for a B5 reboot! :p

By the time it actually makes it to screen, it will probably have been thirty years since it first aired. Which still feels way too soon to me, but I guess three decades is objectively a pretty big gap!

The earthquake was by far the highlight, followed closely by the B5 news!

All my action figures fell down, which gave me a good excuse to change the display over to 'RTD Doctor Who stuff' a couple of days later. What a weird time to live in.

I am oscillating between anticipation, dread and sheer bafflement for rebooted B5, but there are definitely some things they could do now that they couldn't back in the nineties, so I think anticipation is winning for now. (Better CGI! Talia and Susan actually kiss!!!)

I remember, sometime in the last year, reading a fannish discussion of whether it would be a good idea for someone to remake Babylon 5. And I thought that it wouldn't, because B5 doesn't have an easy high concept the way that BSG does, to pick an obvious example. The most distinctive thing about B5 was always the shape of it, the serialization and the (mostly) planned-out story, and obviously those aren't unique to B5 anymore. (Although honestly it still does better at having a coherent plot than a lot of shows today.) I want to see more shows like B5, epic serialized space dramas with humor and tragedy and amazing character relationships and lots of aliens; I don't necessarily need more of B5 itself.

...on the other hand, the idea of JMS himself rebooting the concept from the ground up had definitely never occurred to me. I have no idea what to expect from that or whether it will end well, but...I'm certainly intrigued.

Sounds like it's going to be more of a remix than a straight remake, which at least sounds interesting!
