I remember, sometime in the last year, reading a fannish discussion of whether it would be a good idea for someone to remake Babylon 5. And I thought that it wouldn't, because B5 doesn't have an easy high concept the way that BSG does, to pick an obvious example. The most distinctive thing about B5 was always the shape of it, the serialization and the (mostly) planned-out story, and obviously those aren't unique to B5 anymore. (Although honestly it still does better at having a coherent plot than a lot of shows today.) I want to see more shows like B5, epic serialized space dramas with humor and tragedy and amazing character relationships and lots of aliens; I don't necessarily need more of B5 itself.
...on the other hand, the idea of JMS himself rebooting the concept from the ground up had definitely never occurred to me. I have no idea what to expect from that or whether it will end well, but...I'm certainly intrigued.
