Trope Bingo
So, given that I am writing pretty consistently of late, I decided it would be a good idea to go get some prompts! Trope Bingo are currently handing out cards.
There are a lot of possibilities for lines there, and only a couple of things I don't think I could write easily.
accidental marriage: On the one hand, this would be an obvious one for Londo and G'Kar. As ambassadors, they frequently participate in alien ceremonies they may not have researched properly, and everyone apart from them would find it completely hilarious. On the other, I have long had vague plans to use this as part of that Doctor Who cliche fic that I haven't finished. Hmmmmm. I guess there's no rule against writing the same trope twice, even if only one of them counts for the purposes of bingo.
snowed in: I love this trope! However, nothing very specific occurs to me. I have a lot of fandoms where there is no easy access to snow, and some others where this has been written nine million times. (I mean, does the world really require another due South story where some combination of Ray, Ray and Fraser get trapped by snow?)
au: all-human: I admit, I have never been into in this trope. It's always seemed to me to be a way of taking an interesting setting and sucking all the fun out of it. I guess I could come up with something if I had to, though.
mind control: Yes, I think I could probably write this. Again. *looks sideways at Charles*
time travel: On the one hand, this would be a great excuse to write the X-Men movieverse time travel story that lives in my brain. On the other, that story is long and has a complicated plot, which is why I haven't already written it. Also, canon is going there anyway. (Albeit probably not with as much ill-advised making out between past and future mutants as my story would have.)
au: steampunk: Oh, man, I want to write ALL THE THINGS for this one. (One of the things I do when I am not on the internet is steampunk LARPing, so I have plenty of inspiration.) I mean, is there any fandom that could not be improved by the adition of superfluous gears? On the one hand, X-Men would be a great fit given how important the idea of evolution was to the development of the Victorian psyche. On the other hand, imagine Fringe with a steampunk sensibility. Or Dragon Age. Or Babylon 5. (No, I don't know how that would work either, but wouldn't G'Kar look splendid in a top hat?)
fusion: Possibly I should do something with that Farscape/Blake's 7 idea that I was talking about with Alara a mere, um, nine years ago. Or alternatively: X-Men: First Class meets Tiger & Bunny.
rivals to lovers: You could stick a pin in the non-gen parts of my AO3 page (um, metaphorically, since it would otherwise harm your monitor) and have an excellent chance of finding this trope or its reverse. I should probably make it more challenging by writing a pairing I haven't done before ...
fake relationship: I am very tempted to use that Alias idea Selena and I talked over where Sloane and Sydney have to go undercover in an S&M club for this *g*. Could work with any number of pairings I like, though.
genderswap: I really should write the third part of that Babylon 5 series, especially since I did eventually realise what Londo should be doing in the universe where he's a woman. (And then kicked myself, because it's blindingly obvious.)
presumed dead: *looks sideways at Charles some more* Actually, this kind of thing happens to many characters I love. Especially if you add the 'presumed' part for people like Blake and Crais.
alpha / beta / omega: Um. See, the thing with this trope is, I would probably end up writing about a universe where Magneto is an omega terrorist who wants to end alpha opression by blowing up all their stuff, and Charles thinks they can gain their freedom without killing people over it. Nobody would get anybody pregnant. I am not sure this would be in the spirit of the trope. (I'm also not sure I'd care, because I think the trope is ridiculous. Which is fine, because many of my favourite kinks are also objectively ridiculous and Your Kink Is Not My Kink And That's OK. But it probably means I shouldn't be writing about it. I probably should have opted out of this one.)
FREE SPACE: So many choices! Accidental baby acquisition, amnesia, strip poker, road trip, sex pollen ... well, I doubt I'd have trouble filling this square even if I scratch all the ones I wrote already. (Such as bodyswap and au: daemon.)
sharing a bed: Another classic that I'm very fond of without having anything very specific in mind.
au: space: Everything is better in space! Things that could go to space include: Alias, Dragon Age, Fringe, Ghostbusters, Merlin, Once Upon a Time. Or really anything else that is not In Space already.
immortality / reincarnation: This is kind of made for Merlin, but then, I've always wanted to do something with the end of Torchwood: Miracle Day ...
au: were / vamp / supernatural: Not as instantly appealing to me as In Space, but there are certainly many possibilities. I mean, Sloane would make such a great master vampire ...
kidfic: I have some vague ideas about this, but I think I'll have to look up the definition they're using to see if they count. (This could totally be an excuse to write that B5 MPREG story I've always meant to write. Which, for a change, has nothing to do with G'Kar. Or Londo, for that matter.)
slavefic: Hmmmm. Not one I've ever written, but I could probably come up with something.
au: circus: My reaction to this square was 'is this even a thing?' but I guess it must be in some fandom somewhere. I have no idea what I'd do with this.
locked in: Sort of the same thing as snowed in only with less huddling together for warmth but more geographical flexibility! I've only writte this thirteen times already. (Not an exaggeration; I actually went and counted.)
truth or dare: Hmmmmmm. Selena already wrote the Londo and G'Kar version of this, and I'm not sure there's much point playing truth or dare with a telepath or the Doctor. (Although I guess that could be what the story is about.) Many of my other favourite characters wouldn't see the fun in the game, but I'm sure something will occur to me if I think hard enough.
au: apocalypse: Wheeeeeee, Apocalypses! This works for any fandom, ever. Even the ones that have had an apocalypse already could always have another one ... Really, the only problem here is that I'm spoiled for choice.
handcuffed/bound together: Speaking of stuff I have written a time or two already ...
telepathy / mindmeld: I don't think writing about Charles really counts for this one. Although I did write something like this for that same Doctor Who cliche fic and then never posted it, so I could do something with that.
If anyone has any opinion on which of these things would be more fun to read about than the others, or which other fandoms the tropes could go with, please do speak up. I have no idea where to start!

Ocean-borne hypersea gates which allow ships to travel between worlds!
Babylon Five, a colossal ocean-born city on a neutral water-world!
The Vorlons, a rather dapper if mysterious race!
Who are you?
What do you want?
How do you take your tea?

Oh, man. Vorlons with top hats built into their encounter suits. Earthforce uniforms that are actually cool and interesting. G'Kar with a monocle!
Who are you?
What do you want?
How do you take your tea?
Stop encouraging me!

Speaking of Sloane, didn't we talk about a vampire Alias AU, you and I, when s4 actually gave us a sort of vampire episode with the transforming blood and Syd hallucinating her good and her bad daddy becoming the same? I think our speculation included Arvin becoming a vampire first, deciding to sire everyone For Their Own Good, getting an argument with Jack about who gets to sire Sydney while Emily sighs and exits to do the siring herself while the men are still arguing.

It is the thing I'm planning to write next, so you should not have to be curious for long!
You did the "have to share one bed" one already, too, with Arvin Sloane and Jack Bristow! ("Get me to the church on time".)
There are actually two beds in the room in that story, so they don't technically have to share one, but one of the beds sees very little use *g*.
And count me as another who'd read Magneto the Omega Terrorist. (It would be the first Omega story for me, too, because, well, SO NOT MY KINK.)
The idea is oddly tempting ...
But really, you know you just have to write the Sloane and Sydney undercover tale.
The only real obstacle is that it's been so very long since I saw Alias, but I did recently re-acquire the first four seasons on DVD and have been planning watch a few highlights. I wish I remembered the episode titles better - any idea which Season Four episode it is where Sloane and Sydney dance at that party?

You are quite right! I had entirely forgotten that conversation until just now. I imagine the scene would continue like this:
Sloane: This is perfect. I'll live forever, barring accidents, with my three favourite people. Now, Jack, please remember: no turning Irina Derevko! She's far too much trouble as a mortal.
Jack: I cannot imagine why you think I'd be that stupid.
Sloane: Call it a hunch.
Jack: *wanders off, bites Irina*
Sloane: *facepalm*

snowed in: Does this specifically have to be about snow? If they're in space they could get locked down due to cosmic rays or something?
au: all-human: Yeah, a lot of fic just seem to use HumanAU to force all the characters to go to High School or work in a coffee shop or something. Which are their own tropes really, HumanAU isn't usually the main trope of a work.
au: steampunk: Ooo. So many choices! I'm pretty sure that almost every fandom could work a steam AU. I'm picturing the Babylonian 5 Diplomatic Airship Voyage, all the strange diplomats from all the techocracys/magicocracys/theocracys meeting over high teas and grand balls.
fusion: X-Men: First Class meets Tiger & Bunny. Eeeeee~! The most important question is who is sponsored by what companies? XP
rivals to lovers: This is another pretty broad one, I'm pretty sure you could stick a pin in 50% of slash fics and come up with this one.
alpha / beta / omega: I've managed to avoid this one, I think by bailing out of the Supernatural fandom at the right time and not picking up Teen Wolf or Sherlock. I'm all for D/S dynamics but having it kinda forced on everyone skeezes me out.
locked in: Hmm, so I guess that snowed in does have to be snowed in. It's a bit of a double up though. You could find and replace your snowed in fic and probably make it passable for locked in. XP
Are you going to be in Melbourne any time soon? We should have a vid day and a general fan girl flail!
At the moment most of my internet attention has been going towards
Rise of the GuardiansI mean my Tumblr. ^^ono subject
There is no time limit on flailing about fic tropes!
snowed in: Does this specifically have to be about snow? If they're in space they could get locked down due to cosmic rays or something?
As you saw from the other square, this one is specifically snow. Maybe I'll think of an original take on it somehow, though. (Or an unoriginal one that would be entertaining to write.)
au: all-human: Yeah, a lot of fic just seem to use HumanAU to force all the characters to go to High School or work in a coffee shop or something. Which are their own tropes really, HumanAU isn't usually the main trope of a work.
Yeah. I guess that any X-Men story where there are no mutants counts, but those usually have a coffee shop/school/whatever element as well.
au: steampunk: Ooo. So many choices! I'm pretty sure that almost every fandom could work a steam AU. I'm picturing the Babylonian 5 Diplomatic Airship Voyage, all the strange diplomats from all the techocracys/magicocracys/theocracys meeting over high teas and grand balls.
Eeee, yes. Everything is better with Zeppelins.
fusion: X-Men: First Class meets Tiger & Bunny. Eeeeee~! The most important question is who is sponsored by what companies? XP
I am now up to Episode Eleven, and knowing what Origami Cyclone's powers are and what Ouroboros is all about makes the combination even more appropriate!
Erik is probably sponsored by some tech company that gets exasperated whenever he magnetically wipes the product samples they want him to use in public. He goes through a lot of smart phones, but doesn't otherwise care because he hates having to take corporate sponsorship in the first place. Angel is the one in the skimpy outfit who does the softdrink ads.
Charles doesn't really understand the point of having company logos on things, since he thinks money is a thing that conveniently rains from the sky whenever you need it. He probably 'convinced' Hero TV to let him stick the Red Cross logo on his uniform instead.
rivals to lovers: This is another pretty broad one, I'm pretty sure you could stick a pin in 50% of slash fics and come up with this one.
Yeah - probably applies to an increasing percentage of het fic, too. And there is certainly a lot of it in OUaT femslash, although I can't really testify to other fandoms there.
alpha / beta / omega: I've managed to avoid this one, I think by bailing out of the Supernatural fandom at the right time and not picking up Teen Wolf or Sherlock. I'm all for D/S dynamics but having it kinda forced on everyone skeezes me out.
Yeah. I also keep yelling 'biology doesn't work that way!' and I don't mean at the MPREG. The alpha male wolf has sex with the alpha female wolf! The role of the omega wolf does not involve having hot sexxorz with the alpha and getting pregnant, it means eating last and acting as an important social scapegoat!
locked in: Hmm, so I guess that snowed in does have to be snowed in. It's a bit of a double up though. You could find and replace your snowed in fic and probably make it passable for locked in. XP
Yeah, I can see that working *g*. I mean, if there's a meteor shower or a flood or ... I don't know, severe sunspots outside, I guess that all counts as locked in.
Are you going to be in Melbourne any time soon? We should have a vid day and a general fan girl flail!
I am hoping to be in town next weekend, in fact!
At the moment most of my internet attention has been going towards Rise of the Guardians I mean my Tumblr. ^^o
I am mostly staring at Pokemon fanart. I can never find fic that sounds interesting to me (which is hardly surprising when I'm not really in it for the characters) but SO MUCH ART.
