Dragon Age: <3

So after a couple of days of hosting my parents, which prevented me from working my way through any more quests, I have completed the game for the first time in just under two weeks! Some wrap-up thoughts in future, probably, but for now I'll just say: awesome game! Awesome ending!

Through luck and an insanely high Persuade skill, my ranger managed to become queen of Ferelden. Which involved letting Morrigan sleep with her fiancé so she could conceive an elder god, but hey, you can't make an omelet without breaking eggs.

If I'd known in advance about the Grey Warden sacrifice, my character might have made a different choice. However, by the time somebody thought to mention this tiny problem:

1) Anora was locked up in the tower. My PC decided she was untrustworthy when she sold us out to Ser Cauthrien. Given the aftermath of Cailan's death, she also wasn't convinced that she'd be able to keep the kingdom stable on her own anyway. (And Alistair did not seem at all pleased with the idea of marrying her.)

2) Alistair was king. Even if my character wasn't planning to marry him, sacrificing Maric's last heir to get rid of the Archdemon did not seem like a good option. To lose one king to the darkspawn horde may be considered a misfortune, to lose two ...

3) I had declared my intention to rule by his side. Normally self-sacrifice would have seemed like the most moral option, but that would have meant leaving Alistair to run the kingdom. By himself. A man who puts your character in charge of the Grey Wardens an hour after your Joining. Clearly, this was not a good idea either, with half the kingdom eaten by darkspawn and recovering from civil war with Orlais right next door.

All of which lead to my character going along with Morrigan's ritual. I appreciated the way the game didn't always let you foresee the consequences of your actions, and I thought it was really interesting that a PC who'd always worked hard to take the 'good' option ended up recreating an Old God because it seemed the lesser of several evils.

Besides which, my character has plans! For recruiting Grey Wardens, and granting the Dalish elves that homeland, and making peace with Anora by giving her her father's teyrn ... And let's face it: she already killed an Archdemon once. If the reborn Old God turns out to be trouble, she can always hunt it down.
