I find that taking that attitude helps me not get too worked up about the things in the current version that I don't like, and helps me to relax and enjoy the ones I do.
Exactly. If I thought we were never going to get more alien planets, I'd be upset instead of somewhat annoyed. Sure, there are things about the current series that irritate me, but it's not like they're going to stay like that forever.
But I think that's yet another example of why it's a good thing that Doctor Who changes constantly. It really can be all things to all people, just not all at once. :)
I am always glad that there are people who enjoy the bits of the show that do nothing for me, because at least it means that making them wasn't a complete waste of everyone's time. And I think everyone has a favourite story most people think is utter bilge. (Paradise Towers is mine ...)
Some of the most unconventional ones are freakin' brilliant, but too many of 'em are Yet Another Paint-By-Numbers Adventure Story. I swear, I've just read three books in a row about spies attempting to get their hands on time travel technology. Ho-very-much-hum.
Taken as a whole, I'm finding them frustrating thus far. What's the point of doing the same old thing when they have such a shiny new Doctor? I realise not every book can revolutionise the series, but they could have tried a a bit harder at times.
love the 5th Doctor era, but the 6th Doctor era annoys me mightily. I don't have a problem with the darker direction it took, though, so much as I did with the fact that most of the writing sucked.
I don't know what the hell happened there. In Fifth Doctor era, many of the stories that aren't my personal cup of tea are at least decently written and made. Then we have a regeneration and are treated to two years of almost unrelieved crap.
Or with the fact that they fiddled the Doctor's "contrast" and "brightness" knobs so much that his negative qualities almost completely washed out his positive ones. (Possibly we should blame the coat. :))
I firmly believe that John Nathan Turner should never have been allowed to dress anyone. Up to and including himself, but especially not the Doctor *g*.
