Fresh from Vividcon! Watch out for bees!

This is the first video game vid I've ever made, but I don't think it will be the last. Clipping takes a lot longer, but it's also a lot more fun.

This is the first vid I've ever put on YouTube, because a) the ABC probably can't afford any lawyers and b) I needed a link I could give to my parents.

They've known about my vidding for years (it's a lot easier to explain to relatives than the tentacle porn ...) but this is the first time that they've wanted to watch the result not just once, but on multiple occasions. Mum even wants to send it to her friends! Hence the YouTube upload. It's both delightful and slightly alarming.

... now here's hoping none of mum's quilting buddies google my nom de guerre and somehow find that tentacle porn.

Title: It's Alright
Music: Performed by the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, written by Cole Porter.
Fandom: Ace Attorney
Spoilers: Lots.
Length: 2:41

Summary: Objection!

Available now on the AO3.

This was a very 'method' vid for me. A week out from the Premieres deadline, I had all the clips and no song. Forty-eight hours before the deadline, I decided the song I had wasn't working and remade the entire thing. Then I had a problem with the audio file and my mother turned up at the last possible minute with the CD I needed. (I have never thought of my mum as Dick Gumshoe before, but if the trench coat fits ...)

Through the whole process, I consoled myself with the knowledge that this is EXACTLY how Phoenix Wright would go about making a vid. And I am never doing that again.

Ultimately, though, I think it turned out fun *g*.

... and by 'everyone' I mean 'the people who voted for Ophelia in my poll.

It turned out that I could fix the problems with the file without having to start over from scratch, so now it's up on the AO3 as well with a corrected aspect ratio and looking much shinier. (It's an XVid file instead of a DivX file, because for some reason DivX has decided that it hates correct aspect ratio. It did the same thing with Elevation. Weird.)

In addition, I have now put up new download files for all the vids I've posted there. With the single exception of Extraordinary Machine, these are ALL NEW FILES. They have correct aspect ratio and there are now larger versions for anyone who wants to see my vids with maximized shininess. (Completely worth it as long as you're on a reasonably fast connection.) If you have any other versions of any of these hanging around on your hard drive, I suggest replacing them forthwith:

American Tune

Holy Grail

Ophelia

Elevation

Mackerel Skies

Extraordinary Machine is also available for streaming and download, but I've discovered that the lossless Lagarith file was corrupted when my hard drive died at the start of the year :(. This means that I can't make any new versions of the file and will need to remaster that too ... eventually. Some time after the ten other vids.

People who voted for Ophelia should feel free to change their votes, but barring that it looks like Be My Hero is first up.

Back at the start of the year, my website disappeared from the internet - and when it went, it took all my uploaded vids with it.

This was my own silly fault for not realising that I hadn't given the people I rented my domain name from my new e-mail and credit card details since my last renewal. As a result, I had to go get a new domain. The silver lining here is that I now have blueshades.net, which is the domain I wanted back when I first got my own site! It wasn't available then, but I guess I'm not the only one who let her registration lapse.

Anyway, at some point I will probably put most of the contents of my website back up there. However, the only parts anyone noticed were gone were the vids *g*. Those are all back up now, although I haven't fixed links in old posts.

What I have done is made a vid index post which is now available on Dreamwidth and stuck to the top of my journal here. All fourteen of my completed vids are available from there.

Warning: The vid below is not yet in its final form. If you're allergic to aspect ratio issues, you may want to wait and come back later. It is, however, a vast improvement over the version that's been available online for four years, which is why I'm posting it now *g*.

So, remember when I said I needed girl-on-girl scenes for a new vid? I was lying a little so I could surprise people with this. I've spent the past couple of weeks remastering my vid All I Want For Christmas, and this is the provisional result. I added a lot of new clips. (Including some of girls kissing ...) There are still a few technical issues I need to iron out before I call it finalized. In some cases I didn't have the original source for the clips, and in other cases I've reached the limits on my knowledge of aspect ratio. (Australian DVDs: finding ever more exciting ways to make life difficult for vidders!)

Anyway. The vid. Please right click to download. (Or, uh, whatever one does instead on a Mac.)

Vidder's Note

If I may be permitted to get emotional in honour of the season: not only are we nearly at the end of the first decade of the twenty-first century, in a couple of months I will celebrate my first decade in fandom. Ten years ago, none of you knew me, although I knew a few of you from my time spent lurking. Now I don't know what I'd do without you.

This is a vid about love - the love the characters have for each other, and the love I have for them, and the love I have for fandom and the people in it. Here's to another decade together, yes?

Real Life stress has been keeping from Internet Life this week. Short version: grandfather back in hospital, parents staying, father having kidney surgury next Wednesday. However, I gather from various incoherently joyful posts from the attendees that the VividCon Premiere show has now finished. I've been waiting for a reaction to the final version of this vid for an eternity, so I had to post it. (Anyone commenting to sympathize about the RL suckiness without commenting on the vid will not be making me feel better *g*. The vid is up here. It's dedicated to Selena, without whom I wouldn't be in this fandom to make vids in the first place *g*. (It's actually her birthday present, if we want to get technical, although she was the only person who saw it by the day.) Feedback always appreciated.

I hear that the Premieres show at VividCon has now finished, which means both of these have premiered and I am safe to post them. Squee!
